The Catwoman is out of the bag, as Daybreak has revealed the next major update for DC Universe Online.

Coming this September is Episode 16, which will contain two exciting storylines for superhero fans. First is a solo mission, Oa Under Siege, which features the Black Lanterns heading to Earth. Then there’s both an alert and elite alert of the Desecrated Cathedral in the Gotham Wastelands. Finally, Daybreak is adding a new type of power armor with better visuals and elite affinities, which is proportedly an improved type of set bonuses.

DCUO also just put Game Update 51 containing the brand-new title system and the Bombshell Catwoman cash shop purchase. As you download that, you can watch the developer preview of Episode 16 below.

Red Alert  dorn2 i sooo completely disagree. DCUO completely captures the feeling of being a superhero/villain. I cant imagine another combat system that would mimic the pages of a comic/graphic novel better than DCUO’s. I have my issues with the game but “feeling like a superhero” is definitely not one of them.

I played COH but that was just Everquest in spandex.. I enjoyed CoH but it did nothing special to capture the hectic intensity or vibe of a superhero. DCUO is clearly the superior comic themed game. And as far as character customization you just cant even compare the two. DCUO offers are ridiculous amount of variability in playstyle and costume style. You just have to earn it. And speaking of earning it…. DCUO actually makes you feel the SHAZAAAAMMMM when you defeat the challenging content. Earning Feats and such…. the sense of progression…. DCUO is king.

Red Alert  dorn2 Agree with both of you. I am a huge DC fan (if you couldn’t tell), yet I am not a fan of DCUO for the reasons the two of you mention. And, even though I agree with your comment Red Alert , what does it say for the game and its designers, if you wouldn’t recommend a DC game to a DC or superhero fan. That right there says it all IMHO!

Like I said, I agree, but I find it quite sad as there is probably no other world I’d rather get lost in.

Finally, the fact that there are so few people posting in threads related to DCUO, is another tell-tale sign of how underwhelming the game is actually performing. Superhero related media is so hot right now. DC is killing it on TV and at the theaters, yet I rarely if ever see DCUO ranked in the top 10-15 most popular MMOs. Frankly, I find it pathetic. DC should be killing it in the MMO genre as well. It especially pains me to see Marvel Heroes doing so well, while DCUO seems to pale in comparison.

Perhaps DCUO is doing much better on the consoles, than what is evident on the PC side of things, but even the Twitch numbers seem meh.

dorn2 I think its a pretty cool MMO just not for a PC user.  I put a month in before I realized that the master race was being treated 2nd class.  How dare they I thought and logged out forever.

I can’t say I didnt have a few fun moments though.

DCUO is a game I always seems to come back to.  I work my combat rating up to the last alerts and raids, take a break, and then come back a few months later to do the new alerts and raids.  It isn’t the “be all, end all” of mmorpgs but they are pretty consistent with what you can expect in the future.  Really happy they added a title system too, was about time :)

dorn2 Exactly on spot. Though i consider DCUO to be a very good mmo i don’t think it’s a good “superhero” mmo. I would totally recommend it to hardcore players who love fast pace action and progression but i wouldn’t recommend it to DC or superhero comics fans in general.

I tried going back recently and it’s still just no good for me.  It’s an action game first and a super hero game somewhere around spot 10 on the list.  It’s really a shame actually.  If it were any other IP and if it was PC only it’d be pretty good.  It’s a waste of a good game and a good IP.

I thought it would be cool if they gave a DCUO in game reward for former players of Infinite Crisis, which is closing soon (today I think).
