Renowned composer Hans Zimmer is lending his talents to Bless, the upcoming fantasy MMO from Korean firm Neowiz. Zimmer, whose credits include The Lion King, Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, and over 150 other films dating back to the 1980s, appears in a new promotional video featuring interviews and behind-the-scenes footage from his recent scoring sessions. Neowiz has also published a track from the game’s original soundtrack called Embers in the Storm. Both videos are viewable after the cut below.

Bless is gearing up for its third Korean closed beta test, according to the title’s official website.

Only reason I’m reading this article is because it has “Hans Zimmer” in the titles, so I guess props to Bless’ marketing department.

Caerulei anatheod i think there is a very strong chance we might see this game in the west. I ve watched a lot of Korean MMOs the past few years and this one seems the most “westernised”.

anatheod Video games are a recognized market for both established and aspiring composers these days, especially since a lot of recent movies have been going with “modern” (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard) based soundtracks.  In the olden days, the great composers had patrons: kings, nobles, the church and such. But even back then, classical music was written as background music for plays and operas (“The Magic Flute”, “The Ring of the Nibelungs”, “Music for the Royal Fireworks”, etc).  For the past 50 years or so, it’s been movies.  While movies aren’t going anywhere, video game budgets can easily rival that of a major motion picture, adding a full audio score to their games.  Even some of the bigger name composers of movie soundtracks have been dipping their toes in (Bear McReary, Danny Elfman, etc).

Hopefully Neowiz will put an official soundtrack up on iTunes and Amazon.

Mt 2 favorite music soundtracks are Gladiator and the Last Samurai…King Arthur also is very very good. The fact that they hired Zimmer to make the music is telling that these guys are really trying hard to make an immersive virtual world. And now to the usual question: Will this game come to West? I mean in a reasonable time not like Blade n Soul…

Damonvile warpchy Silverbourne The image of Zimmer hanging out deep in a forum thread arguing the semantics of Western versus Korean level grind is hilarious. I highly doubt he knows about or gives a shit about the Internet’s ‘stigma’ against KMMOs.
