Heretics storm into Albion Online

Albion Online is beefing up its PvE game with this month’s Cador update. If you’ve been following this title for any length of time, then no doubt you’ve noticed that its patches are downright huge — and Cador is no exception.

Cador begins with the addition of the Heretic faction, which will show up in new Heretic-themed dungeons overseen by dark masters. Another big change with the update is Albion Online’s new death mechanic, which allows players who run out of health a chance to get back on their feet before dying for good. Armor has been recategorized, a fame bonus mechanic has been introduced, and over 25 new abilities have been added to the game.

Sandbox Interactive said that Cador’s progress will allow the team to focus on adding more ability choices to weapons and lays the groundwork for the upcoming PvP reputation system. Patch notes? Oh yeah, we got ’em, so pour over all of the goodness here and let us know how the game is going if you’re in the test right now!

Wasn’t so much that other game options don’t exist, but more that I specifically liked the way this one has been looking, in terms of graphics and general design.
I realized PvP was a big part of it, but wondered if there were any content on offer for those who aren’t looking for a steady diet of PvP — rather like how WAR had some (really interesting, in my opinion) PvE quest lines as a side offering in a very PvP-centered game.
Ah, well. It’s no great tragedy. Good to know in advance.

And guild politics as endgame? Yikes! I’ll leave that sort of thing for those who like it. I’ve endured enough “Guild Of Thrones” stuff in my gaming career, I think.  :-D

Enjoy it!

mysecretid Xevious MorpayneRADIO Eve Online with swords is actually pretty damn close honestly. You could try to play one of the hundreds of other games that cater to your particular demographic though.

Albion Online, Eve Online, Darkfall, Gloria Victis, these are all titles more geared towards the pvp centric crowd who enjoy the guild politics as endgame.

If true, then it sounds like “EVE Online With Swords”, which is not something I’d find fun.
I have no problem with other people getting their PvP on, but if my only options are “Play hardcore PvP” or “Become a guilded crafter (i.e. an indentured “grind slave”) and support the PvP, then I’m going to have to give this one the pass.
I’d rather spend my gaming time doing things I consider fun.

Too bad. I was looking forward to trying Albion Online on release.

As a long time follower of this game and a founder, this is good to hear.  To be honest, I was quite dissappointed that they extended the beta till August.  Literally felt like they were never going to release the damn game, not to mention with all the changes to payment model and what not that have happened.

Hopefully this will fix some of the problems with the game and maybe I will actually log on again, since I haven’t in 3 months.  Although since this is still the first patch that I can recall since the holidays, seem they are still taking way too long to get things done.

MorpayneRADIO Obviously if you don’t leave safe zones you don’t have to do PvP lol. But best resources are NOT in safe zones (just like EVE or other sandbox games on the market). Top guilds does hard-PvP to control best gathering nodes. This game is really PvP-oriented, because high levels zones are NOT safe. “High level zones” means open PvP and full loot. Of course you can be just a crafter, but you have at least to join a PvP guild, or you will stay just in safe zones doing same things again and again.

I’ll have to disagree..I’ve yet to leave the safe zones and already built myself a pretty nice player island. This game isn’t just a pvp game, there’s crafting/gathering galore, and honestly when hasn’t crafting and gathering been grindy?

Ulfbaen In my opinion, no. Too much grind for everything you want to do (crafting, pve, housing, etc). PvP is the core feature, for PvE i would choose other games (I have purchased the game few months ago).

Is this game worth playing if you don’t care much for PVP?
