The Stream Team: Path of Exile’s third act is a charm

7

Act III contains Path of Exile’s last three Ascendancy trials, and MassivelyOP’s MJ has finally found each one. Now she must face them and emerge victorious to be granted the privilege of entering the Labyrinth. She has conquered the previous three, but that’s no guarantee that she can master these next once; each one seems a bit more difficult than the last. Tune in live at 7:00 p.m. as MJ faces these final tests.

What: Path of Exile

BalsBigBrother orionite I suspect you are correct and if the idea of the stream is more “An hour with MJ” rather than “Experience Path of Exile”, then that’s totally fine.
The stream can give a slightly skewed impression of POE, in terms of speed, difficulty, etc. Unlike almost any other game I know, you should have at least a vague idea of what your character will become. Maybe a choose my adventure type format would have been interesting, and given MJ a more rounded/accomplished toon to work with.

tanek_09 orionite the passive tree is rather mesmerising isn’t it as in “AAAHHHH BRAINFREEZE” type of mesmerising.  I guess whatever works for each player is good but I was kind of distracted by those unspent points to the point I found myself mousing over the screen to click when I watched the rerun this morning.
I tend to just go for it, see what happens and know I will probably crash and burn at some point but I will have fun before then and I can always try again so its all good :-)

orionite My thinking on the skill points, since it can sometimes be difficult to undo a mistake, is to have a general idea for a build and direction, but spend points only as needed if/when you get out of your depth with the content difficulty.  that way, not only do I have more time to plan out how I want to play, I also get near immediate feedback on whether the points I spent made a positive difference for my character.
Probably not the best way to play and I am sure people who know the game and builds better than I do cringe at the thought of unspent points, but otherwise I might spend all day staring at the passive skill map rather than blowing up enemies. :)

I mostly like the labyrinth, but one slight problem… one disconnect at any point and you have to start over from scratch!

I can’t complete it in Cruel because I keep getting random disconnects. One time, I had got to the end, defeated Izaro and was in the final treasure room, about to collect the beautiful shiny loot when I disconnected for no apparent reason. Whenever that happens I can’t be bothered to run through it all again – because it keeps happening. It’s a massive waste of time!

They really need to make the labyrinth much shorter to minimise the chance of a disconnect – or somehow let us continue after a disconnection.

orionite I would suspect lack of experience rather than any other factor.  This is as far as I know MJ’s first real attempt at running through the game on a character she had made rather than a “press” built one she has been given so there will be some lack of knowledge on what to do with those points I imagine.
I would suggest snagging any health, mana, spell damage, cast speed in that order if there is no particular aim in mind  and then build round any gear / gems found.

Hey MJ, are you playing with some self-imposed limitations or why are you not spending your skill points? To have 13 unassigned passive points seems a significant penalty. Is there a build you are pursuing or are you just playing by ear?

Good luck soloing the labyrinth, you might want to group up.
