Rumor: Aeria Games no longer publishing Bless Online for western audiences

Rumors are flying this morning that Aeria Games has been dismissed as the western Bless Online publisher. MMORPG.com reports that it received “fairly substantial information” from an anonymous source to that effect. “Gamigo representatives were in Korea last week where the agreement was cancelled due to quality confirmed,” writes the blog. “This has also apparently been confirmed via internal communication with employees coming from the Vice President of Product Sascha Zehe.”

This is not the first time we’ve encountered rumors about the state of Bless’ import. Back in December, the game’s official teaser site vanished abruptly, causing a panic that the game had been canceled. Aeria, however, said it was just a data center migration. Still, we haven’t seen much public progress on the game since last autumn’s announcement that Aeria was completing gutting Bless’ combat system for a do-over. It was intended to release here this year, but we’ve seen far more movement from the Russian and Japanese branches.

We’ve reached out to Aeria and Gamigo for a statement and will update when we know more.

So…who has the quality concerns, then? Wording on the original article even seems a bit ambiguous, but it appears that it’s Aeria with the concerns?

Which strikes me as odd because like…have their not looked at their own library of games? The bar isn’t set terribly high to begin with…

I don’t think that current games will topple it. But more less the longer it waits the newer games will swamp it out. Worls adrift, Crowfall, Star citisain, Camalot unchained, shroud of avatar. Bless itself will merge on the 14th. Their last update was April 12th. Hence early July we will see the updates or before. Even so as a long time player of the game, I don’t see it ever getting past Korea now.

They do have there mobil still coming out though.

Odd timing on this. I just spent some time this weekend getting Bless KR running and patched. It’s a neat game that has a nice look, but at the end of the day, it plays like the cut-rate bastard child of FFXIV and Black Desert, yet not excelling at anything in particular. The longer this languishes in localization limbo, the more likely this will suffer the same fate as PSO2. The online game landscape is ever shifting and very competitive, and a game like Bless will probably quickly cannibalized by XIV on the more traditional MMO sense, and a newer title like Black Desert on the action side of things.

Game shut down in rusia 5 months after it went open beta …
No idea why people don’t like this game but i want to try it.

I played on the russian servers and for me the tech killed it. The game was a laggy mess, very poorly optimized. The combat system felt clunky at best. The setting, the classes and everything else was pretty much fun imo. Very sad if the rumours would be true.

Hopefully this is the case. Aeria is bad and there are better companies it could go to.

If they pulled the right from Aeria then I just might play this one. I wont play any game that requires Aeria’s Ignite launcher.

reminds me of what happened with another game i wanted to play – Lime Odyssey

Lime Odyssey wasn’t the developers fault though: their korean publisher quit and left them hanging.

well, if you dont go into too much detail, its still the same – an upcoming game shows up, in the end it disappears without becoming available

Didn’t the Russian beta get shut down as well because of the state the game was in?
This is definitely one that I would give a try though if it comes to NA.

Well… it does seem like the game will just close down before it’s even released in the West.
Stranger things have happened than a dead game getting brought back to un-life for a while by some random publisher buying the rights, though. Maybe we’ll see that happen.

Don’t expect it to last long in Korea at this point…

Fucking knew this was going to happen. Bless will never make it to the west and I am steamed about it. It is a beautiful game I was looking forward to playing more of(I played the Korean version for a little bit), but not happening.

Looks like I will just have to play the Korean version before the game shuts down over there.

Pretty looking game. Combat seemed a bit clunky and stale. Steparu quit updating progress on this game months ago so I figured it was dead in the water. With BDO’s success in the west, they can’t say there isn’t a market.
