Guild Wars 2 has begun doling out anniversary presents; here’s what to expect

ArenaNet is rolling out birthday and anniversary gifts in honor of Guild Wars 2’s fifth year of life.

In the mail, fifth-year characters will nab an experience scroll granting any toon an instant boost to level 50 (following the annual pattern), two birthday booster buffs, five teleport-to-friend tokens, one dye kit (exuberant), one card granting 5000 karma, and the “Relentless” title. That’s a per-character bonus, so if you’re sitting on a bunch of old toons, hooray for you.

Once per account, you’ll get a separate anniversary chest that bequeaths your choice of anniversary backpack (same as last year), a guaranteed wardrobe unlock (I got a dye, sigh), two anniversary weapon packs (they’re the gorgeous glowly Luminous weapons), and the “Anniversary Lounge Choosy Box,” which grants you your choice of a two-week pass to the Captain’s Airship, Royal Terrace, or Mistlock Sanctuary.

Happy birthday, Guild Wars 2!

How have you received yours already? I made mine on the 3 day head start and haven’t gotten it yet.

Disappointed the Luminous weapons are twice per account. Was hoping to scoop up at least 3 for Staff, Dagger and Focus. Now I gotta figure out a replacement one of those. Was actually planning on getting the whole set even if they were BLChest drops.

My immediate reaction as well. I was going to unlock all of these because I like them so much. Dammit!

To be honest, I wasn’t that exited when I first saw the Luminous weapons’ gallery, as they are not very different than the Auric weapons! ;P

When I started checking GW2 out again I was tired of my Elementalist’s look that I’ve had pretty much game launch (using Priory Legs/Chest, Human Racial Gloves, Boots, and various shoulders/helm). So I went about coming up with a new armor look.

While I found the armor set eventually (settled on vigil pants so I had half robe, half pants), color scheme became a problem. I’m a fan of very flat or naturally metalic colors so I mostly stuck to off-white (white-gold, ivory, glint’s isolation, etc) and ended up on a golden trim. However the off-white wasn’t very good looking (was like natural dye remover haha) so I ended up switching over to a more off-white/brown “charred” color to have a more faded looking natural black. Pairing it up with the new Feather’s of the Zephyer Glider/Back combo it came out quite nice.

The problem became accessorizing the proper weapons with this new color scheme. Auric weapons are out because of the green glow. While I had already settled on an Infinite Light sword for my Weaver (below) the problem is trying to find matching offhands and staff to go along with this color scheme. Enter: Luminous Weapons. The Staff has basically very few Golden Staves so that was a no brainer. However this becomes a tough choice for offhand neither Dagger or Focus really have a good themed item so I have to choose between which offhand I want. Difficult decision all around :(

I always tend to use 3 color schemes, to add “features” for certain details! ;P

Auric weapons’ green glow is actually very light, perfectly complementing gold!

But seeing already a blue gem on your gloves, also a very light blue glow from a Lightward’s Battlestaff or a Timekeeper Staff wouldn’t collide with the rest either!

If you can’t decide between focus and dagger, you certainly can fall back to an Azimuth, Emberspire, Zenith Spire, or maybe even a Candelabra or a Calcite Antique Spire for a staff! ;P

But you’re right, foci and daggers have some more golden options, like the Citrine Antique (oddly its staff version is very dark o.O), Privateer, Guild Shimmering, Storm Wizard or Sovereign ones, some unique ones and so many golden goblets! :D

Personally I hate that blue gem with a passion and soon as the Weaver Gauntlets drop I’ll be using those instead. This will still add Orange/Blue to the mix but only from particle effects. It’s just very hard to find forearm length light gloves as most are designed for armors that go over the forearms so are just gloves.

Auric Weapons and Auric theme I already use on my Druid character who already has his metallic leather armor colored an off gold to match the off gold of the Auric weapon theme. It’s anything but light and is incredibly noticeable, especially the Luminate’s backpiece. Green trails everywhere.

I’ve gone over all the staves 100 times. The closest is Azimuth as you linked. The issue I have with Azimuth is while it’s certainly gold, there’s a lot of of the Marigold color in there. While Marigold is my favorite color, it’s vibrancy works against me with my faded dye look. I also dislike how “thick” of a staff it is as I prefer slender, sleek looking weapons (such as Infinite Light’s narrow sword width). The luminous staff fits too well there as while it glows it’s very subtle on the staff and the natural gold color matches with the folded Zephyr’s Wings which is just nice.

I’ll probably end up with Dagger, as for WvW and PvE it’ll be a sensible choice.

Got a cool Bloodstone Dark Violet dye (saved 200g there), a Dagger Skin and Sword skin (for the upcoming Weaver elite spec), a Holbrook backpack skin, 2 week pass to whatever Premium location I choose, and an Achievement unlock.

Very nice, very very nice.

I think the dyes are the best thing. I’ve managed to round out my collection with some of the rarest, most expensive dyes for free!

I have quite a lot GW2 toons and they are old. Most of them are getting 5 this year. But I hardly ever log into GW2 so I do what I do ever year: I log in collect my gifts and log out again.

When I recently started playing again, some of my old toons had birthday awards dating back to 2nd year! Kind of fun to be getting years 2-5 awards all at once on toons I don’t/rarely play.

There’s a bunch of API stuff now to keep track of things but with 20 characters it can be crazy to manage all the gifts and when they come up. I have 37 Birthday Boosters lol…
