Ex-World of Warcraft dev Stephan Frost snapped up by Nexon to head unannounced game

Last week we reported that World of Warcraft and WildStar design producer Stephan Frost had left Blizzard for another opportunity. Now we know what that opportunity is: heading up a secret game at Nexon’s Irvine studio.

“I’m starting today as a Creative/Game Director at Nexon OC on a brand-new unannounced PC title,” Frost tweeted. “Super excited to get to work.”

In some of his responses, Frost said that he was “cautiously optimistic” about the move and that the mystery wasn’t for hype purposes but because there is “a lot of work before we can show it to people.”

Maybe he’s going to raise the bar with all new cash grabbing schemes like “layaway2win” and “rent2own2win.”

Whoa! I was going along kinda surprised but if you are going to leave AGS or Bliz, the only thing I could see would be perhaps Riot or certainly mobile. Then I noticed it said “unannounced PC title” OK, this better be a very big raise – or more probably title and stock options.

Why would you leave Blizzard for Nexon? I can’t even… I’m a fan of Frost. The money must have been extraordinary I guess.

You might be shocked to learn this, but just because a company makes good games does not mean it’s heaven to work for or work at for decades.

Also he went from design producer to Creative/Game Director, from mid-level minion to top dog. His name on the game.

Might not be for the money alone. It is probably because WoW is pretty static in the direction it takes for content. There isn’t much room for creative freedom in a game that has been running for that long. The Expansions change things but not the fundamentals of the game.

He is going to have more creative freedom on a brand new title.

Those were my thoughts. Had to be a chance to do something new, his own way.

Better commute? It is Irvine though they are most probably across the street from each other in equally non-descript buildings.

If Nexon has money they should invest part of it on making a decent launcher.

Money, and laborers, have absolutely no connection to quality code.
