Have you tried the mobile revolution that is ArcheAge Begins yet? Don’t worry, we haven’t either, although it does look like a heap of eye candy in the palm of your hand.
Gamevil isn’t neglecting its new property, releasing the game’s first major update this past week. This patch contains a new guild vs. guild territory battle system, the first evolutionary hero, additional costumes, more guides, and an increase in the membership cap for guilds (which now goes up to 50).
In addition to the update, the team has also activated a “surprise” login reward campaign that is running through November 26th. It looks like there is something different to be claimed every day from now until then, so be diligent in grabbing those freebies!

Wow, I feel out of the loop. Never even heard of ArcheAge Begins
So I actually just gave this a try and it’s surprisingly fun. I expected another action rpg style mmo (like Lineage II Revolution, Nexon’s HIIT, etc.) and instead it’s real time party based gameplay. It’s hard to explain but definitely not what I expected. You collect heroes, gear them, level them up, and then build a party of 4 for the PvE encounters. All 4 party members auto attack on their own but then you cycle through a “deck” of abilities with cool downs that they each have, choosing when to use them and against which enemy. There’s also farming, fishing, and “housing” though I’m not sure what the latter entails. The farming is where the weird cow comes into play. It’s not any less weird in game. It actually gets weirder, even without the baseball uniform.
Why is this type of model so popular for mobile gaming? It’s like telling children to eat doot, but pretty doot covered in sprinkles and watching them gleefully gobble up the sparkly goodness.
The same reason microtransactions, loot boxes, and games themselves exist. They make money.
Stuff that keeps showing up, like this type of model, like loot boxes, like microtransactions, RMT, etc. is because when people sit down and decide they want to make money via a video game, choosing a model that makes the most money ensures the best chances of success.
Ofc, the reason why whatever-makes-the-most-money makes the most money is that is what the customers want. If the customers preferred, with their wallets not their social media, subscriptions or B2P without lockboxes, then that is what companies would sell.
So, quick question about the pic you chose for this banner. Is that a cow in a baseball uniform? What the…..
Is that part of the mobile story line? Is this a new Sports-ARPG mobile mashup game?
I’m so confused and amused.
It’s a secret warning that the whole game is a load of bull.
Ugh, login rewards. Those are almost as obnoxious as lockboxes, even if they are completely ‘free.’ Not that I was ever, ever going to give ArcheAge Begins a try.
Wait, I thought Lineage II Revolution was the mobile revolution. Even Conan told me so. But now you’re telling me it’s Archeage Begins? How am I supposed to know which one to join when no one seems to know which game is revolting?
Lol. It’s in the title, I guess… And so it begins.
