Fair warning: It’s almost April Fools’ Day, which means lots of game studios are going to start pranks and silly-themed events, and they’re going to do it early since April Fools’ Day this year is on Easter Sunday. One such MMO studio is ZeniMax, which is kicking off its Elder Scrolls Online event this coming Thursday. Appropriately, it’s called The Jester’s Festival.

“If you want to take part in the silly season, make your way to the pavilions located outside the cities of Ebonheart, Vulkhel Guard, and Daggerfall,” ZeniMax says. “When you arrive, strike up a conversation with one of the three Jesters dressed as either Jorunn the Skald-King, Queen Ayrenn, or High King Emeric (don’t worry, they’re not the real thing). Complete the intro quest titled ‘The Jester’s Festival’ to acquire the powerful not-a-Daedric artifact known as the Pie of Misrule.”

If you ran the quest last year, you can skip that part this year to snag your XP buff pie. And on the daily, you can grab a “Jester’s Festival Box” with an assortment of consumables, mementos, recipes, and housing items. The event runs only to Monday, so hop to it!

Seems like this would be the perfect time for a Sheogorath event. Please tell me they wouldn’t pass up on making april fools a day for the Prince of Madness.

This was my least enjoyable event last year, and really annoyed the heck out of me when I got halfway through the achievements with my Paladin-style Templar who doesn’t touch the Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood and found that he couldn’t complete them because they involved stealing. There should always be an alternative path in my view, and that includes some of the quests in Morrowind too.

I remember this event from last year. I really enjoyed the double experience and if I remember correctly, the boxes gave some pretty neat stuff for crafting. Or I could be remembering that wrong. Either way, I think I will log in.

I wish I could go into temporary stasis during game april fools events. They get less funny and more unnecessary every year.

I guess it’s up to me to just log out for a few days. ;_;

This one’s decently self-contained, since the celebration is just at the one pavilion, and the double XP item is essentially a buff that lasts through the entire four day weekend if you remember to refresh it. It’s not bad.
