According to a report on Gamereactor, Ubisoft would like a piece o’ that PUBG and Fortnite action.
The publication claims to have an “anonymous source inside the studio” who’s told it that Massive is building a quick-turnaround battle royale clone following an Ubisoft directive in January. As VG247 pointed out, this isn’t much of a surprise; not only do game companies like money and trends, but Ubisoft in particular namedropped PUBG in an investor call last year, suggesting Ubisoft might add the mode to its existing games via DLC.
Ubisoft answered the rumors by saying, “We don’t comment on rumors or speculation,” which you’ll notice is not a denial.
As we’ve previously covered, Massive is also working on The Division 2.

Let’s point and laugh
I’ll be extremely surprised if Division 2 doesn’t have a battle royale mode.
Here’s my take on this, it’s easier for independent teams to pull off these massive free for all pvp games because they’re easier to crank out for them. A small team can get prebuilt assets and tailor make them for their project, more importantly it doesn’t have the same degree of expectation and standards of quality that Triple A publishers are tied to.
So when a Triple A publisher tries to get into the trend, by the time they’re able to release their product the storm has already come and gone, because their development time is three times a long.
That said, utilizing an already live game and adding into their systems would be an easier task, as we’ve seen with the new modes for Ghost Recon: Wildlands recently.
Gee it’s almost like this Battle Royale thing is a big new fad that people want to jump in on much like MMORPGs, MOBAs, and Team Shooters in the past years.
I’m shocked! Shocked I tell you!….
Hey, this trend worked with the moba scene, right? How about all those wow clones…
.
No…pls no…don’t pull resources from Division 2 just to try to cash in on a temporary fad.
But I was just getting into Moba’s…. oh wait, no I wasn’t.
/e starts polishing the ‘But I was just getting into Battle Royale’s…Oh wait…’ post.
I eyerolled at this. One would think that after WoW-clones, LoL-clones, and however many other me-too games out that that publishers would be able to realize that diving into a runaway market is rarely a winning proposition. But nope, let’s just keep making the same mistakes again and again. Then try and justify exploitive money – tactics because you blew millions in a me-too clone that flopped instead of trying to actually create something worth playing.
