Warframe’s Chimera update goes live, introduces Arbitration missions and daily tribute reward changes

26

A new Warframe content update is live, and it brings with it a new mission type for high-level players, some new weapons, the new daily tribute rewards system, and a slew of other tweaks and changes. The highlight feature of the update, titled Chimera, is the new Arbitration mission type, which becomes available for players after they’ve completed the entire Solar Map. These missions task players with fighting their way through challenging level 60+ enemies to earn “new rewards and bigger payouts than normal alerts,” but the catch is that players have only one life, and if they die, that’s game over.

The update also introduces the new daily tribute rewards system, which aims “to give [players] more choice and more appropriate reward scaling as [they] delve deeper into the game.” Players will now be given up to three reward choices on major milestone days (every 50 days between 0 and 1000). In addition, daily tribute rewards “now scale based on the amount of days [players have] logged on,” meaning that the more players log on, the more bountiful their rewards will be. Although these are by far the biggest additions included in the Chimera update, it’s also full of additional content, such as new weapons and a variety of system tweaks and Warframe changes, the full details of which you can find in the patch notes on the game’s official site.

Things like this make me happy. And continue to show how being (mostly) open interactive with your players makes for a better experience both as a player and as a developer. Circling the wagons should never be a viable choice because doing so makes your most toxic(and frequently loudest) critics feel that they are winning and then double down.

I just want to offer a sincere ‘Thank you!’ to [DE]Rebecca and her community team. Without them, Warframe almost certainly wouldn’t be what it is and the rest of the industry wouldn’t have the near perfect example of exactly how to interact and work with your players and grow your community without allowing the toxic elements to become the face of it all.

Blizzard, you creeps, you could learn a few things from your neighbors to the north.

Same with Tennocon, that’s how you run a convention. Well organized, you come up the stairs and there are the developers greeting you, talking to you if you want, signing whatever you want. Real “gamer family” atmosphere going on.

Then for the reveal, just when you think that’s it, nope there’s more, ok wow that’s allot, no wait there’s even more, the crowd went absolutely ape sh!t. A great example of the kind of people they are is that after the con, Space Mom takes to the internet to find the person she wasn’t able to sign a comic for as you know she’s running a convention but was interrupted so she couldn’t. What else can you say as an example of how they interact with the community. They appreciate us as much as we appreciate them.

The name of the update is a reference to a new mini-quest, “Chimera”, that continues the main storyline for people who’ve completed “The Sacrifice”. Super-spooky (as appropriate for the time of year), and full of plot!

I’ve not tried any Defence / Interception / Excavation Arbitrations yet (I’m not a fan of high-level defend-the-objective missions), but have been enjoying the Survival ones. Already got the Adaptation and Vigorous Swap mods as rewards, and Ayatan Sculptures seem to be fairly common in the reward table. Haven’t yet reached 40m in one though, as lots of people seem to die around the 15 minute mark.

The combination of level 90+ Arbitration Shield Drones and Ancient Healers is a massive headache though. This hard-to-target flying drone has a large health pool and is being constantly healed by the big critter with knockdown and an invulnerable shield!

Have you run any solo Arbitrations or only in PUG?

Reader

All PUGs so far, though I’ve finished some solo after everyone else dies! My main difficulty with high-level solo survival is getting enough mob spawns and enough DPS output to keep the life support drops going, especially when the shield drones are slowing down kills.

SOLO? didn’t even cross my mind. Yikes!

“Super-spooky”, had on the good cans, lights out for no reason other than the sun went down without my realizing it, i liked it allot, deep but not too long and drawn out, and the interactive touch, cherry on top!

I’d just finished Revenant before this lol, like two minutes, literally. I started the quest, and at the part she’s screaming, look he’s trying to get away, HURRY! i’m freaking out looking all over for him running away, for so long that i triggered that response several times but i started the whole thing with only about 45 minutes of night time left, then the sun came up.

4 hours later, it let me pick right back up where i left off and was palm to forehead moment, yea there he is trying to get into the freaking river ffs, lol, click done, well then killed him and yea, done. Can’t believe i had to wait 4 hours to finish 2 minutes of content, lol.

The new story quest is super good. It’s another short “prologue” like Apostasy, but still really good. A little more interactive than the Apostasy one, too. Really has me jazzed for The New War, although I hope we get at least a little more stuff related to the main story before that’s out next year. Another “prologue” quest in the spring, maybe?

Haven’t tried the Arbitrations yet because I haven’t quite cleared the star chart. And the whole “SUPER DUPER HARD MODE” thing doesn’t get me excited anyway, especially since I’m already rolling in Endo from leveling up my Ghost clan. The new Adaptation mod looks cool, but I’m not in a rush to try to get it.

I also have not cleared the chart. I got distracted by equipment-based MR growth. But MR also grows from star chart so…onward and outward!

I had not completed the Star Chart to get into the new Alert, that one Arena Vodyanoi on Sedna, was always empty so could never get it done. After the update though it was double-digit squads but was still so frustrating.

A few failures later, i get up with this guy and we’re doing great, he had about 10 kills 4 deaths, i had about 8 kills but 6 deaths, lol, then this guy joins in and I can’t believe what happened. He died, he died, he died, died, died, died till we lost WTF dude at least f*cking hide, FUK ME was i pissed. Again, several failures later finally got into a good 4 pack and was done in seconds it felt like.

Great! I’m done!!! Huh? No new Alert? Wait, wut, 223 of 227 huh, I go planet to planet wtf am I missing??? DERILICT SHIP, no worries solo’d those 4 right away. Which made me realize how far my little Nova has come, she used to struggle in those, now, she just rounds the comer with her Tiberon Prime, or her Supra Vandal and mobs are just like f*ck this and die to save themselves the embarrassment, well felt like it anyway.

I join my first Alert and yea was harder but wasn’t a problem. I’m far from an amazing Warframe player, but I can hold my own, and sometimes I surprise myself. Over the weekend more reality of the Alert settled in. I died finally and was like, that’s it, I’m out, whoa that hurts, not even a revive from another player? What also hurts is, host migration is real, I think when peeps die they take the option to leave, and forces a migration where someone else will come in? That sucks, toe curling moment, under fire, oh wait hang on its “host migration time” ugggggg.

I love how a Warframe and a wep get a 300% bonus. This game the way everything intertwines, ok that’s a massive tangent topic, nutshell; it’s awesome. I love it as it makes me aware of other weps for one thing but incentivizes getting/using other frames, outside your standard coverage frames. However just because your Gorgon, or your Ash gets a 300% bonus doesn’t mean automatically take it if you don’t know how to play it, learn from my mistake, lol.

I’m MR16 now and in absolutely no rush to hit 17, only wanted to hit soft cap for Rivens. It’s all about picking the perfect color for my gear (fashion frame?), forma, better mods, cracking relics, basically focusing on making this quote true “My Warframe is Strong”.

Finally warmed up to 2 other frames, Ivara and Zephyr, Nova… she’ll always be #1 on the runway though, and now looking at harder content such as eidolon hunting, starting to spend much more time in the plains, as in haven’t done much there at all. Please DE hold back Fortuna for as long as possible.

Oh, and the new Arch Wing launcher, Thank you DE!!! Makes the plains so much more enjoyable, and unlimited launches too, sweet! What do I do with the 82 I still have though, lol. Hey, it’s the internet I must complain about something.

Huge list of changes.

Sharpshooter (Sniper): +15 Energy on Headshot Kill
Cautious Shot (Unique): -90% Self Damage, -15% Total Damage
Power Donation (Aura): -30% Power Strength, +30% Power Strength for teammates
Vigorous Swap (Warframe): On Equip: +165% damage for 3s, +100% Holster Speed
Rolling Guard (Warframe): On Dodge: Become invulnerable for 3s and remove all Status Effects. 7s cooldown.
Adaptation (Warframe): When Damaged: +10% resistance to that Damage Type for 20s. Stacks up to 90%.

Wow. Some of those will DEFINITELY make it into the meta. I LOOOOOOVE the Sharpshooter and the Power Donation ones. (You heard it here first: every Inaros you play will will now be required to use Power Donation.) I’m super-curious about Adaptation and want to bring it on my Nidus just for RP’s sake. The only one I don’t really care about is Cautious Shot. I don’t use many self-damaging weapons so this will have little utility for me.

Archwing Launchers are now infinite use! It will also auto-equip instead of having to locate/pickup the Launcher spawn.

GLEE — I have already made use of this. So awesome.

Shortened default Stasis Recovery time from 3 hours to 30 minutes.
Changed cost of Stasis Rush cost from 10 Platinum to 10,000 Credits.
Tenno with the Nutrio Incubator Segment installed now have instant recovery from Stasis at no cost!
Reduced Platinum cost of Companion Name Change from 25 to 15 Platinum to match weapon entitlement costs.
Removed pickup limit on Kubrow Eggs!

Outstanding.

I’d not noticed the pet changes, awesome!

Can’t quite afford Power Donation yet, but I can tell you that Adaptation on an already tanky frame feels ridiculous. 90% damage reduction for my Inaros’ 7k+ health bar was just what I needed to become truly invincible :D

The unlimited auto-equip, what a difference it makes in the plains.

Literally a game changer, that’s not only an expression in this case, it seriously does make that much of a difference. i didn’t know about all those changes, thanks. Maybe time to pull out my pet again, hmmm?

With all these changes almost forgot about the new Chimera Prologue and the Paracesis bp after, wow, that’s going to be a slug putting that thing together. 15 orokin cells, wow. Any help against the Sentient is welcome though.

When i think i’m getting a firm handle on this game, that’s about when i realize, nope there are even more layers i was completely unaware of. Like how you are so pumped with the mod changes, I’m only now starting to appreciate this level as i’m warming up to other frames, weps, mods, aura… Another example is i just heard about Self Damage this past weekend, wtf? I thought that was a warframe’s ability, like a buff, or a dmg ability like Chroma’s Spectral Scream, but looking at that mod Cautious Shot, now i’m not sure i got it right, as why woud anyone ever want that on?

Recently i became aware of Disposition too, trying to get my head around that as i was reading on a site about Rivens there is Disposition rating for them, and then noticed weps have Disposition rating too. Read a couple explanations which counter one another so, i dunno wtf is disposition?

Reader

Disposition is basically a reflection of a weapon’s use across the playerbase, and the inverse relationship of that factor to Riven power. So if a very commonly used weapon (Tigris Prime) has a Riven disposition of 1/5, the Riven will only effective within that gradient. An uncommonly used weapon has a disposition of 5/5 means it will have a much more powerful Riven effect. I like Disposition because it gives an incentive to use less-common weapons, and have those weapons become more powerful as a result.

The confusion i ran into researching this, thanks again. I think people make things far more complex than they really are at times.

I still have so many questions about so many things. Mostly about operators and amps. I’m, like, SUPER bad at Operater-ing. Seems like a pop out and die within 2 secs every time unless I stealth.

I also don’t really understand Eidolon hunting. Every time I read about it I just hear people shouting CHROMA LANKA CHROMA LANKA TRINITY LANKA CHROMA and I run away screaming.

xpsync

haha, I hear you, i’ve only done half dozen or so, and trust me i’m not helping that much, as in 3% dmg was my best. Taking out the Vomvalyst during the healing stage of Teralyst is appreciated that i know, the rest i have much to learn.

The basic is to hack Lure’s first, then wear down shield with operator, then dmg parts of him with standard weps, rinse repeat through the stages like, energy spike, heal, stomp all until he dies.

I got into one with a MR25 and yea he solo’d it, my 1% dmg i’m sure helped, he totally couldn’t have done it without me :)

For the time being i’m going to back off Eidolon Hunting until i get a better amp, operator focus because it’s the same thing here too, i die, recast, die, recast, seems like all i do, lol.

It’s almost like (earth/cetus/plains) is this entire other game i’m just starting to get into, no rush for Fortuna.

I’m still not entirely clear on what the heck i thought Self Damage was?
What is Self Damage exactly?

Reader

Alex Willis

I don’t know what the technical specifics are, but basically it’s when you use a blast weapon and you get caught in the radius of effect, resulting in self-damage. It’s very inconsistently applied — some blast weapons have it, others don’t. The Penta is a good example of one that inflicts self damage.

xpsync
Reader

Got it, and thanks again. Also makes perfect sense in why -90% Self Damage woulld be a boon.

Reader
sophiskiai

Like Alex said, any weapon which deals explosive damage can cause self-damage if you’re caught in the blast, so the new Arbitration mod makes you much less likely to blow yourself up while using one.

I’ve heard about a couple of meta builds based on self-damage – one for Chroma based on using self-damage to trigger the damage buff from his Vex Armour ability, one for Trinity based on using her Link ability to channel her self-damage to a high-level boss enemy in a way that bypassed its shields and armour. The Trinity build was so effective that the devs tweaked Link so it no longer works with self-damage, or with friendly fire from allies with explosive weapons or radiation procs.

Reader
sophiskiai

Ugh, I need to hunt some Eidolons so I can build the new sword and unbind some Focus Passives and gild some amps, but that sort of meta bullshit is so discouraging. More people need to understand that a certain ‘frame / weapon / build being 1%-5% more effective is far less relevant than how good someone is at playing what they’ve got!

The thing about operators is that they start off weak and squishy and you have to power them up by earning millions of Focus Affinity. There are a couple of Madurai passives which give 40% more amp energy and 60% faster amp energy regeneration, a Vazarin passive which gives 150% more operator health, and a couple of Unairu passives which increase operator armour by 60 and then by 200%.

I know, too many buy into gotta have the best, and sure i get it, it’s your thing, but don’t try and sell it to everyone.

Researching Rivens i found that some have gone for as high as 28,000 plat, wtf? Great you have the best mod in the game, maybe or for now, but what good is all that when someone simply pops on a ignis wraith and runs around? Well unless it was for a ignis wraith, lol, but I’m sure you get my point. That level of dmg isn’t necessary in Warframe (that i’m aware of), it’s purely bragging rights at best.

Unlocked them all and that’s about it so far, still squishy, lol. Good tips thanks!

Warframe still updating, it’s so slow sometimes, had a feeling we would see a patch by end of day.

Currently, it seems that Adaptation and Rolling Guard are getting all the attention, but I bet Vigorous Swap will rise in popularity once Melee 3.0 is out, assuming the new melee weapon quick-swap procs it.

So far it’s a great update. Not having to use Archwing charges anymore is a godsend. I’ve neglected the star chart for years so I can’t do the Arbitrations yet, but I’ll get there eventually. Of course there’s a ton of bugs and issues that came with the update. Especially with Operator cosmetics that Steve already acknowledged. It wouldn’t be Warframe if updates weren’t janky, so any Tenno looking to jump back in should give them a few days to a week to clean up.
