Leaderboard: Are you playing Fallout 76, Red Dead Redemption 2, or neither?

I have to wonder whether Bethsoft is having some regrets right now. It seems to me that Fallout 76’s beta is being completely overshadowed by the release of Red Dead Redemption. Part of that is probably because the beta is a truncated, discrete ordeal, with windows for testing rather than an always-up scenario (and the PC launch was a bit of a mess). But it’s not really just a test; the game is still supposed to launch on November 14th, and everything players do during these tests carries over into live. It’s more like an early access or even a headstart.

And yet all anyone’s talking about is their red deads. I’m not even sure that will be alleviated much in November, either, given that Red Dead Online is supposed to kick off then too, giving Fallout 76 even more competition. If it weren’t Bethsoft, I’d suspect they’d postpone the launch. In fact, when I first started reading the letter to fans ahead of the beta last week, something about the ominous, distancing tone of it at first scared me into thinking they were canceling for a rework. It just doesn’t read triumphantly at all.

Even MOP’s Justin, a die-hard Fallout fan, didn’t preorder. So now I’m curious about our readers. Let’s see where your allegiances lie…

I selected ‘I am not playing either’, but it’s more accurate to say, ‘I have no plans to ever play either.’ Not interested in the RDR franchise and not interested in the 76 flavor of Fallout.

Playing both. Not as in to 76 as I’m waiting more for private server options as I like to do with ARK. Enjoying RD2 a ton tho. The movement like others have said is the main drag on this game but I’ve not had as a hard a time as I’ve seen some on YT have with the same missions, but it’s still noticeable.

Playing both:

RDR2 is spectacular in a number of ways: spectacularly beautiful on a One X, spectacularly detail-oriented, and at times spectacularly infuriating in limitations or bugs that intrude on the gameplay. Overall, I love it, although I need to finish the last 25% or so of AC: Odyssey before really committing to it.

I’ve only played in one beta for FO76 so far, but had fun getting up to level 5, as well as a very positive first impression of the perk system they’re using. My bf and I have often talked in the past about how great it would be to play a Fallout game together, so we’re excited to be playing together for the first time tonight and are looking forward to the full launch.

I’m not terribly interested in RDR2 Online, so once I finish its main storyline I’ll probably cut back on that and ramp up on FO76. Right now it looks like if I keep up my pace in finishing Odyssey and then RDR2’s campaign things will time out well with me completing those storylines right around the time FO76 has its always-on launch.

Overall, this set of games has made for a first rate autumn gaming season for me!

Neither. 76 looks like a meme game designed to have people pay to test online tech for future games compounded by it looking like another No Mans Sky with the same cult of ‘but you can do anything’ getting rabidly zealous to defend their preorders and GTA 5 was a ‘funpay minibuy’ nightmare so i’m content with ‘deadmans gun’ to remain my final experience with red dead.

Fallout 76 beta is pretty fun so far. I don’t buy single-player games anymore, as I get far more enjoyment out of playing co-op games with my wife. As such, I won’t be touching RDR2 until at least when RDO goes live, and possibly not until it drops for PC.

Honestly after like 2 mins the movement problem had me like “What the fuck would this be like at the launch window of a year ago?”

I’m loving RDR2 on ps4 except I think the team that took care of movement should be castrated kinda especially when you’re up close to objects… In the wild open it isn’t too bad… But it’s like geezus what the fuck year is this? Why is there not fluid movement???

I missed the first night of the fallout Ps4 beta because I went with my family to see Halloween… $5 ticket night… Plus great memories…

If you’re indulging in the games listed above, I hope you have fun! I will be holding down the fort in other games.

This may as well count as my WRUP entry. :P I have been playing a little bit of single player games, and a lot of FFXIV and Dragalia Lost. And some Subeta, the pet and avatar site hangout of edgy teens of yesteryear that’s been silently chugging along and matured into something like Neopets’ big brother. If I can budget more time, I will try to conquer Maplestory 2’s character creator boss.

I will add full art of this character next time I post in WRUP! I think you will be very pleased with her design. I’m not stealing your vivid pink thunder, am I? Hopefully I’m just doing my part to beautify the comments!

Looking forward to it!

…and no, I don’t have any patents on this color. So make it pink as humanely and Gnomishly possible, please! <3

RDR2, loving it. Been watching some streams of the Fallout 76 beta and as I thought it’s not my cup of tea in the slightest.

In fact (don’t get me started on the lore) I am slightly surprised by how much the lack of NPCs is really bothering me.

Currently, neither. I’m not into console games, and Bethesda games are already buggy as hell after release. I shudder to think what it will be like while its in beta.
