Walk the Path of the Slayer in Dauntless’s latest update

The latest update to Phoenix Labs’ free-to-play monster-hunting MMORPG Dauntless, titled Path of the Slayer, has gone live as of this week, bringing with it the brand-new Mastery system, an extensive overhaul to the game’s core progression, and the beginning of the fourth Hunt Pass season.

With the update, players can now hone their skills and earn valuable rewards by progressing through the Mastery system. Each Behemoth and crafted weapon now has a unique Mastery card associated with it, and each card tasks players with completing a number of achievements related to that Behemoth or weapon, for which they’ll be rewarded with experience, new customization options, and alternate special attacks for the Hammer, War Pike, Sword, and Chain Blades.

In addition, the game’s core progression system has been completely reworked. New players should now find it much easier to get into the swing of Behemoth-slaying thanks to the introduction of tutorial cards that “[introduce] concepts like crafting, combat, quests and more […] in a clear, transparent way.” On top of that, the end-of-hunt screen has been updated to provide Slayers with more useful information, “including progress made in various Mastery cards, quest rewards, Behemoth break parts earned, and more.”

And veteran players should be pleased to hear that the game’s quests have also been revamped to make questing a bit more straightforward. All this, plus a streamlined crafting system and the start of the fourth Hunt Pass season, Burndown, is available in the game right now, but if you want to learn more before you jump in, you can find more details in the Path of the Slayer dev blog on the game’s official site.
