Conan Exiles is launching The Riddle of Steel DLC to honor the 1982 Conan movie

Oh my!

Conan Exiles is due for a fresh round of DLC this week: It’s called The Riddle of Steel, and it’s specifically an homage to the 1982 Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Conan the Barbarian.

“The new DLC will contain several unique statues and figurines of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan, as well as iconic helmets from the first movie, commemorative warpaint and other decorative items,” Funcom says.

While the DLC will run $6.99 on PC right now, the studio is launching a free update alongside it today with the Sunken City and Sepermeru Silver Mine dungeons; and it’s running a Steam free-play weekend starting today at 2 p.m. EDT too.

“The Riddle of Steel is not part of the four core DLCs Funcom have planned for 2019 and will therefore not be included in the Year 2 Season Pass. Instead the studio has simultaneously released a free update, which includes two new dungeons, a total revamp of several locations, new NPCs and a new feat, Witch Doctor, allowing you to summon wights and skeletons to your side.”

Expect the DLC on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 “shortly.” It’s not on Steam as we type this yet, but we assume it’ll be up soon too.

Is there still no ability to see where your friend is in the game if you are playing together?

Hated how if your friend ran off your screen, it was such a pain to meet back up with them again if you werent actively trying to follow them visually.

Thats what upsets me about these games trying to simulate “realism”. In a game like this, you are limited to a 90 degree field of view, but in real life, you have nearly a 180 degree field of view, and you can turn your heads perspective separately from your eyes allowing for MUCH easier and more clear awareness of your surroundings. You also have audio for directional help.

Would be nice if there were simple “edge of screen” markers that many games use to point you in the direction of your friend.

You can see them on the map and you can hear them.

Correction on this, I dug up the original press release and it states that Riddle of Steel will be released later this week, not today.

“The Riddle of Steel will be available for PC for $ 6.99 (other regional prices may apply) later this week, and will follow on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 shortly after. “

Ah yes “DLC” otherwise known as “We don’t want to manage a store front so we’re just going to package all these cosmetics together and sell them as a bundle.”

I prefer DLC sales to single item sales. They are a game company not a chop shop but I digress because I don’t want to give them any ideas of how to drain more money from people.

They could easily sell the stuff through steam individually, but that ends up a bad value. Not to mention given the game is realistically only on steam having their own store front is counter intuitive by every measure. All DLC for the game is purely cosmetic items and are just comparable to other items and look visually different.

If you own none of the DLC, can you still play on servers with people who own it all?

Yes, no one has to buy the DLC. And you can give the stuff to people who don’t have it (or steal it from those who do).

You can watch any of the streams MJ has done where we make and give her all the weapons and armor to show.

I don’t care for Conan Exiles but I do think this is pretty cool dlc idea and also rolling it with a bunch of free stuff is a good move too.

I am quite fond of the Conan the Barbarian movie with Arnold and watch it every so often. Its getting on a bit now but then aren’t we all and is really cheesy but its fun in a switch your brain off and go with the flow sort of way.

80’s movies were good for that.
I recommend the written stories for Conan too, I read those once in a while as well.

Funcom just loves to pick at my scab and rub vinegar into it. That said, yep, agreed on the old movie. :)
