Let’s get one thing out of the way right away: At this point, there’s no confirmation that Final Fantasy XIV will be available on the PlayStation 5, which makes sense for several reasons (the lack of that console being officially announced for release, for example). But Naoki Yoshida certainly hopes it will be. At a fan gathering in London, Yoshida surprised players with his appearance, posing with a signed PS4 given away to a raffle winner and noting that next year, he would hope to give away a signed PS5.

The official word from Square-Enix is that this was Yoshida expressing a hope rather than firm plans, and in interviews Yoshida has declined to say whether or not a port is in development. Still, most players have likely suspected this would be a reality for some time, and it’s hard not to believe that this is a genuine hint about the future. Of course, if he had just worn a t-shirt for it, that would have been confirmation.
