Elder Scrolls Online players raise over $200k during the Slay Dragons Save Cats charity campaign

Well done, playerbase of The Elder Scrolls Online. You slew dragons, you saved cats, and you had a hand, however small, in raising over $200k for two animal charities in North America and the EU. Give yourselves a round of applause.

The ultimate donation goal of this unique charity event that started in October has been met with two days left in the campaign. Readers will recall that Bethesda was going to donate $1 for every five dragons slain up to this total, which means that players have been busy. The $200k will be split between the Best Friends Animal Society and FOUR-PAWS International, which is on top of an extra $1,509.34 that was directly donated by players.

There’s still plenty to do, of course, with the Dawn of the Dragonguard still ongoing and the New Life Festival due on December 19th. There’s also still a sweepstakes to win a real-life dragon head mount prop, and you can still directly donate to the charities if you wish. All of the information is at the same event website. Just take a moment to marvel at the total amount you helped raised while you’re there. You deserve to feel good about it.

I did my part in contributing to the extermination of a highly endangered species! Probably killed about 30 dragons during the event. I’m so proud. #warcrimes

Love ESO and did my share, but I really dislike the many one-/two-shot mechanics on ESO world bosses in general. I was killed by dragons many more times than vice versa :-) While not game breaking, it’s just annoying and makes me play less ESO and more other stuff.
But yay for Bethesda for doing this!

Actually there are mechanics to learn about the dragon in which you can avoid death even in melee range that most people simply don’t take the time to try and learn that deeply. Blocking at the right time still prevents a lot of these would be instadeaths as well. Being at the correct angles of the dragon at the correct times also is a major part of it.

There is no insteadeath attack that is unavoidable, everything is learnable, and there are some melee ranged places you should only attack from if you’re a fully equipped high CP tank.

There are way too many people not using block when they should but there is more to it than that. What you should do if having too much death trouble is look up dragon fighting strategies that will help you learn the dragon attacks and how to avoid them.

Deaths at the dragons definitely are avoidable, most people just try to bulldoze their way through it with all the other people there rather than really learn the patterns though.

Sure, and I’ve read up and tried to learn about these mechanics. I was elated when I apparently blocked Soul Tear but haven’t been able to do so since (not sure if this is lag related as I’m in Australia or I’m missing something).
In addition, the knockdown + spawning aoe circle from fire dragon kills me, I can’t break out and roll away in time (again lag related? or something I’m (not) doing?).

My point is I have tried, I still get killed a lot and it’s annoying to the point where I won’t touch world bosses unless I want event tickets. In other games such as SWL or FFXIV (though I’m only a lowbie) I’ve found the tells to be much easier to follow.

Kill one animal species to save another?? Barbarism!!! think of the poor Dragons!!!

I like good animal causes, considering we are essentially responsible for pretty much EVERY issue every other species has its nice when we can proactively do something to help make up for it.

Kudos ESO team and community ;)

Does it help that ESO dragons aren’t animals so much as the physical embodiment of elemental forces?

No because then not only are we killing an animal were also killing Tamriel! lol
