Whether you’re practicing extreme social distancing or actually hunkered down within a quarantine zone, quite a lot of you are playing video games right now, as evidenced by the huge spikes on Steam this past weekend. While health workers and delivery people and grocery clerks risk their lives, many folks are recognizing that the best way they can help is get out of the way, not be a disease vector, and focus on something social – like gaming – to stop from freaking out.
I’ve seen people organizing events and even begging studios to launch games early so people can play and not go bonkers while they’re “sheltering in place” and subject to state curfews. In my house, I’ve been using games like Adventure Academy, too, to keep my kids pumped full of gamified knowledge while the schools are under a complete shut down.
