I admit that my RPG gaming sensibilities are greatly informed by the SNES age of JRPGs. Games like Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana and Evermore, and of course, seminal classics like Chrono Trigger and the Final Fantasy series are ingrained into my soul. So if you’re anything like me, then the introduction to the MMORPG DarkStory might tickle your fancy.

DarkStory comes by way of developer BraveWolf and officially released last month. The game bills itself as a 2-D online role-playing game (ORPG) touting hundreds of hours of play on offer. Players can pick from one of four classic classes and do things like explore dungeons, party with friends, enter a PvP arena, and take up crafting and gathering professions. DarkStory is free-to-play with a cash shop that appears to have cosmetics and boost items.

If you’re curious about this one, the game is available to download now and is set to release on Steam sometime this month. You can also get a peek at some gameplay with the launch trailer below.
