The Repopulation promises new skills, system revamps, and more in its latest roadmap

A lot of the progress made in development of The Repopulation is pretty granular: bug fixes here, some greybox builds replaced there, things of that sort. For those who would rather get a bigger picture of what’s to come, the developers have shared an updated roadmap of what tasks are next.

The vast majority of the post is about what has been done up to this point, but the roadmap promises features like new systems for items, harvesting, crafting, containers, gear basics, housing, and racial specs. There will also be a new ability and skill system, player-run merchants as well as a world auction house, the addition of factions, a Horticulture profession, and a new system for quests and missions.

Players who are following along can get the full list as well as recount what’s been accomplished before at the official site.

MMO players will recall that The Repopulation was Kickstarted twice for around $230,000 and hit Steam early access in 2014, where it’s been ever since, excepting the year it was offline entirely thanks to the HeroEngine dispute that eventually saw Idea Fabrik take it over in 2017.

Yeah, I’ll pass, thanks. As an original silver Kickstarter backer, I’ve abandoned any hope on this mess. This game remains a cautionary tale for me, along with No Man’s Sky, when it comes to crowdfunding games. It’s my Kickstarter “reminder box.”

I log in every 6 months or so just for a unfinished, barren and clunky gaming experience. I would have gotten more enjoyment out of kickstarting a Large Cheese Pizza and throwing it in the trash because at least a family of racoons could enjoy it.

The game needs a combat overhaul badly. It’s very clunky, and not satisfying . Also support for 4k needs a lot of work. I want to like this game but those 2 things while they might seem minor are a deal breaker for me. I’m glad to here that they are planning some major overhauls . These I feel need the most love . If the game had combat like wow or archage or even bdo or blade and soul it would appeal to a much bigger audiance. So hoping for big changes with UI scaling and combat.

Still one of the most detailed and flexible crafting systems I have seen since SWG. Shame this thing has had such a crazy development.
