So for those brave foolhardy souls venturing into Walt Disney World during this year of the pandemic, it must be a surreal experience to see normally crowded parks spread out and subject to all manner of extra precautions. But it must be even more surreal when an MMORPG just happens to pop up in one of Disney’s most popular dark rides.
Recently, some park goers were on EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth, the ride that goes up inside that giant golf ball and talks about the development of communication throughout history. Each of the cars that people ride are equipped with touch screens to keep them occupied during some of the ride’s more dull moments, and it was on these that — of all things — World of Warcraft appeared.
One rider took a short video showing how the touch screen opened up to a control panel that displayed a prominent Battle for Azeroth ad, which elicited some chuckles. A themepark MMO in a themepark? We’re into some Inception-type nuttiness now, boys and girls.
