Cyberpunk 2077, the upcoming RPG from CD Projekt Red, had another Night City Wire video digest full of additional gameplay details. In this episode, the devs took a closer look at how character origins steer the game, offered a peek at several weapons in action, and took a moment to discuss bringing an in-game band to life, interspersed with three separate videos covering each individual topic.
Regarding lifepaths, each one provides both a unique introduction to Night City for player characters while also promising to have character origin influence the overall narrative, mostly with additional dialogue options.
In terms of weaponry, there are a variety of options from high-tech cyberware to good old-fashioned guns and melee weapons. There are three different types of guns: power weapons, tech weapons, and smart weapons, with rarities ranging from common to legendary. Power weapons are more conventional types of firearms that can richochet bullets off of surfaces; tech weapons have electronics that accelerate projectiles through walls and cover; and smart weapons utilize guided missile tech to arc bullets towards a tracked target. As far as the RPG elements of gunplay, character progress will see increased accuracy, faster reload times, and faster movement and ironsight aiming.
Finally, there’s a look at how Swedish hardcore punk group Refused worked with the devs to make the in-game band Samurai, including using the band’s lead vocalist as an NPC in the game and the challenges of having musicians write music for and play as other musicians.
