Sea of Thieves adds dog companions and timed vault raids with today’s Vaults of the Ancients

It’s time once again for another monthly update for Sea of Thieves, and as we’ve been reporting for the past few weeks, this one’s pretty special, primarily because it has vaults to raid and doggo friends.

The party piece, as the update’s title would suggest, are loot-filled vaults that the Gold Hoarders have hidden across the world. Players can only enter these vaults with a key, which can only be found by following a unique compass to pieces of a treasure map. What’s more, the found vault key can either be turned in for gold or used to open the vault itself, granting players a chance at even more rewards and a hidden Chest of Ancient Tributes so long as they figure out a puzzle before time runs out and the vault door shuts.

The update has also introduced a variety of things to the Pirate Emporium, including dog companions, some new emotes, and a new ship set. There’s some new ship cosmetics to earn in-game too, some quality of life tweaks, and a new NPC that will play a part in things to come in the months ahead.
