Genshin Impact plans on more characters, more areas, and a PS5 release in the future

The popular single-player/multiplayer RPG Genshin Impact will be expanding outside of what’s currently available according to a miHoYo spokesperson who talked with IGN Japan. The developers plan on adding more characters, character-specific missions, side quests, and a third city, all of which are currently in development. The mechanics of the game, however, don’t appear due for any changes or additions.

According to the spokesperson, what launched is only “a portion of the game” and the developers consider Genshin to be a live service title. “One could say that the real work has only just begun,” the spokesperson is quoted as saying.

In addition to expansion of the game’s world, there are also plans to have the title release on additional platforms. miHoYo has already confirmed that work on a Nintendo Switch release is ongoing, and the spokesperson stated that the game will also release on next-gen consoles, which will not just be direct ports but will have “future visual improvements.” However, next-gen here appears to mean PlayStation 5 specifically, as the spokesperson explained, “We currently don’t have any plans for an Xbox version of the game.”

An extremely solid gaming experience. I played it a good 4 hours and the only reason I put it down was because it focuses too heavily on single player and I wanted a multiplayer experience. Great graphics, great gameplay, typical anime story, but for free, it’s hands down great quality. My personal preference of wanting a multiplayer experience out of the gate is what made me put it down. I didn’t notice any pay 2 win in my 4 hours. It felt like I was playing a “tales of” game but for free. Quality is deff there, might pick it back up later. Don’t expect a full blown mmo experience though. After some hours I still didn’t get the option to co – op. But it’s free and offers a AAA title experience. Didnt see any pay 2 win junk. So highly recommend it. Its like tales meets zelda and its great.

Most mmo players know the gacha tells from other developers, but the actual “free2play” is kinda the beauty of this.

Unlike other games where you have to pay to compete or keep up with meta, making it seem like your protecting an investment more then playing a game as a whale; being a whale on Genshin tho, feels much better. The feeling of wanting to pay outta pocket for supporting the game, versus “having to pay” feels genuine.

Isn’t that a bit premature? Depending on what the game develops into?

But sure, not even having PvP (yet, maybe ever) helps.

Unless they just eventually throw a curveball they havent yet, it seems more like given the world level (and the fact after the firts one new world levels require a quest to unlock) thing its kind of up to you when you feel comfortable making the world harder to quest around in and can just fuck around indefinitely customizing things in the meantime

Mostly agreed! But the game won’t only be world levels, and the future regions will up the scaling in their own way – it won’t be flat. And there will be more and more challenge content that won’t be just ‘up to us’. World level is more a setting for the most basic level of grind they want to allow us to be able to do — I wouldn’t put that in the same area as the advanced level of grind they want us to struggle to complete. Which will happen. Its just nice to choose to leave Lv 1 enemies behind (unless we join a co-op or there’s a future update to allow us to change world level back), and deliberately turn up the enemy level to our own/beyond.

The game won’t end at world roaming, domains, world bosses, and abyss, just to be clear about my point. The devs will find more and more ways to nudge, then push, then likely outright require something meta, which will be something gacha, and something of months of grinding (hell, even if a whale), to complete. The bright side is that it feels so far that story content won’t be left behind (no guarantee), and there will be plenty of feedback to work from to make better and better content, management/resources/time/talent permitting.

I have to say I have been very impressed with the game. It doesn’t force you to spend a single dime on it even though it is set up in a way you could spend hundreds at a time if you think you just have to have everything. I did buy the battle pass to show support to the devs. They give you tons of free wishes with chances to get at least a character or two here or there. Seems you have a better chances if you save up an do a roll of ten. Have gotten a character almost every time that way.

Hit rank 30 today and haven’t even finished the main quest lines. Haven’t even really started the the second area quest yet. Just been roaming and looting everything. Finished up the first area except 2 chest missing. Got my main character to level 60 tonight and most weapons to 2 with a few to 3, and almost full purple sets on most.

From what I have gathered they are adding more content around the 12th, which is crazy considering how much there already is. The new area will be the size of the 2nd one from the last interview I read. Also adding 2 or 3 more characters, don’t think the 3rd one was confirmed yet.

They give you tons of free wishes

That’s a lie. You get very few after the initial ones.

Seems you have a better chances if you save up an do a roll of ten. Have gotten a character almost every time that way.

You are garanteed a 4-Star every 10 Wishes and a 5-Star every 90. There is no better chance when doing a 10xWish. You can do 10 times a single Wish and get the same result.

If someone means ‘dozens and dozens’ instead of hundreds of free wishes, when they say ‘tons’, then yes they get tons. But so far for me, not enough tons to even hit the 90 semi-pity point on a banner type. But there will be future content (achievement ones suck), event, login rewards.

And yeah I was mistaken about the 10pulls myself earlier! I’m used to games that had it, so assumed wrongly. And then I learned about the (supposed) carry-over of pity based on banner type and not specific banner. So guess who dumped their gems into trying to get Venti in meanwhile, happy to not get him as long as the count goes towards a future banner? Me. It was me. And I didn’t get him, but now I have another Barbara and my Xiangling is over half gacha-progressed (4/6 constellations, so will be 5/6 when I get into Abyss).

Wouldn’t even call “dozens and dozens” tons of pulls… but whatever. You get maybe 40-50 pulls before it dries out. I’m fine with that. I know those types of games.

And yes the pity rate carries over to the next banner. The Devs said that.

Xiangling though…. I maxed her Constellation and don’t even have her from the Abyss yet… and only ONE Fischl.

Reader

Well I did dozens and dozens of free pulls and I’m not even in the second region. Like … let me check… 20x for the beginner, 10x for the regular, 54x for the character, and I have the tokens/currency for 5x more.
A note, I got the month sub a couple days ago, so you can subtract a couple after this. I have not converted the genesis crystals. I’ve been doing commissions since I could, but that was less than a week ago.

= 79 (then take whatever away from this you want), several dozen

I fully expect that if I don’t get Venti before it, I’ll hit the 90x semi-pity point by the end of my Oct+ gametime, as I haven’t hit a 5star on it yet. My one 5star was from the beginner banner.

Again, I’m not even in Chinaland and I’m still in Germanland wrapping some stuff up because I’d rather get needed AR there (AR 21 atm) and feel more complete than feel kind of lost over there.

Between further content, various rewards they will give like through the mail, commissions, (and yes my sub), and whatever else, Yeah I’ll be over 100, maybe over 150 or beyond this month. Is that going to slow? Absolutely, even with any upcoming event next month. Will I have multiple 5star characters and one of them be Venti? A good shot at least.

You can turn in primogems for genesis crystals and those primogems are giving to you by doing literally anything in the game. Though I’d be nice to be able to straight up buy a character because you can get the same character twice (it gives some component to level it up past its level cap though).

TBH, I’m surprised at how the gacha isn’t frustrating at all in this game. If they’d sold the game 60$ as is and removed the real money transactions, it would have felt the same as the gacha in Xenoblade Chronicle 2.

You don’t get materials to level them up higher if you pull another one. You get stuff to unlock their Constellation. Which in turn makes them way more powerful. So, to get the Character to his maximum power you need to pull him 7 times.

But as far as I can tell you don’t really need it to complete everything in the game so far. Maybe Abyss.

4 star doesn’t mean a character either. It could be a weapon. And yeah I consider getting close to 70 rolls, which is about where I am at, already to be a ton of free rolls. Sadly people think they have to have everything the second the game launches in a game like this instead of just playing it. As far as the ten thing goes I have had a lot more success getting characters when doing that than rolling ten times. I rolled twenty single at the beginning didn’t get a single one other than the guarantee one. Did the ten rolls every time after that and have gotten one every time but once.

It would be crazy if it wasn’t treated like a live service game, considering it’s a gacha game first and a singleplayer/co-op game second. It just happens to have a pretty large scale and fun game on top of it, and seeing it that way has made the game a lot more enjoyable and impressive for me. It was bound to get added to rather than be a fully complete experience at launch

It’s pretty obvious that this is just the first chunk of the game since by level 30ish you run out of content apparently and there are more regions out there that are blocked off. As usual folks get hooked and hit a wall wondering where the rest of the game is.

At 30, there are still 3 quest chains available at 32,34, and 36. How you get there at that point? Spam dailies, run dungeons that consist of just a circular area with a pack of mobs, or fight the same 5 easy elite bosses over and over. Edit: Also Spiral abyss..which is 3 sets of circular arenas to fight mobs lol

The journey was fun, but it’s clear they did not have a real end game loop down properly. So hopefully they plan on pumping out new zones fast.

I just picked up the game this morning after hearing about it only now. It’s giving me some serious BotW vibes with really solid graphics and animations and freedom of movement. I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth the gameplay is, and while i’m only at the beginning of the game, so far it’s really clicking with me.

Reader
Malcolm Swoboda

Later regions won’t feel so BOTW, and there’s room to branch out the gameplay if the devs want.
Just don’t fall into the gacha well. They give you want you (at least almost entirely) need. Use that before freaking out about what you could get.

They also give you a good amount of freebies to use at your leisure.

Pump those articles out and as long as I notice and care, I’ll rant. Because I busted my neck last night, feel terrible, and this is all I can manage now.

None of this stuff is a surprise to me. I think there’s like ~23 characters though, not 20? The second region’s main content isn’t even complete too, just .. ends for now.

Hope the third region is this year – I personally don’t need it to be this month – and that the devs really care to put lots more substantial sidequests and major new sidequests in, to the point of later new players having no ‘need’ to go map roaming for Adventure Rank exp to catch up to newest story. I don’t mind the process right now, I don’t, but it’d be nice also to find a good way to lower the rank needed for co-op in a still reasonable way.

Considering MiHoYo’s rare emphasis on global market from a Chinese game, I’m almost chalking up the absence on Xbox to be more about a deal than an unwillingness. Maybe its the latter. I’ll just presume its the former for now. Their hands are full for fitting this thing on the Switch anyway.

I’m still stuck in the wind dragon’s lair because there’s too damn many nooks and crannys. And finally some enemies here I just can’t defeat yet. And I need my Tylinol again. God my neck. All this from trying to be healthy and doing pullups. End me.

Thanks :). Last night was super hell and I got only two rounds of sleep, 1-2 hours each, way late at night/early morning. But its better than last night and I an imagine being mostly better by end of weekend. Scary at first!
