Season one of Sea of Thieves’ new business-and-content model has officially arrived today. Here’s hoping this take lasts long than that whole “three live teams working on constant content” thing. Today’s release includes the new permanent voyage type, a new limited-time event, better arena comms, new cash-shop loot, performance tweaks, and bug fixes. Season one is expected to run for the next three months.
“Another permanent Voyage type comes to Sea of Thieves in Season One, providing a new way to build your reputation with the Merchant Alliance. They need pirates to recover lost Cargo Manifests and shed light on the fate of the crews, and they’re ready to pay well… […] For those seeking something a little more focused than the intentionally wide-ranging Trials, each month of a Season will bring a new time-limited in-game Event offering its own rewards. See what’s up first alongside some of your favourite recurring Events!”
In other Sea of Thieves news, Gamesradar has a piece up on how Rare helped organize a real-world treasure hunt for a house-bound six-year-old kid and his father.
MASSIVE thanks to @Ghoulyboy @ChappersChapman @SeaOfThieves @RareLtd for this special pirate quest! Each customized riddle was placed in the woods, guiding my son to the real life treasure. We rushed as the sun set to dig it up! #SeaOfThieves #rareltd #piratelegend #treasurehunt pic.twitter.com/UDC3b1dGbI
