WRUP: Ham hunters edition

Pork chops

Ham hunters! Hunting ham! Not pigs. Pigs are where you get ham. They’re just hunting actual ham. Why would you think they were hunting pigs. That’s disgusting. It’s wrong. They’re just in this to hunt that delicious ham.

Here are some kinds of ham: honey glazed, uh… actually I just know about honey glazed. Maybe the ham hunters know about more. More ham. More types of ham. So much ham to hunt. Pineapple? Yes. Glazes? Sure. Ham. Ham ham ham.

What Are You Playing is pro-ham. What do you mean that I should have used the ham picture this week? There are different ways to celebrate ham. You know what? Forget it. No one here deserves ham.

Editor’s note: The ham hunters died from scurvy.

Bonus question: What’s a game you will almost always replay if given the opportunity?

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Pokemon Go will get it’s time so I don’t go crazy, but it’s Monster Hunter Rise release weekend, woo! If I fall in with some tail cutters, I can get back into Hammer-time since I’ve been missing it, but I’m loving my Switch-Axe so far.

A game I’ll almost always be down to play is any Mario Kart for home consoles, especially Double Dash. The co-op in one vehicle really helps new players feel like they can help, much like the Cho’Gall in Heroes of the Storm. I really wish more games (especially VR) would have these kinds of gameplay options.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’ll be in Star Wars Galaxies Legends and City of Heroes again. I know, I know, but I’m happy. They’re getting me through. In SWGL, I’m gonna do another big cooking round, and if I’m feeling motivated, I might get to those droids. Have I mentioned I’m just never going to enjoy hand crafting? Everything about the crafting I love, except the actual crafting. And in CoH, I’m going to mess around with my new Brute.

Hmm, I’m going to pick Guild Wars 2 here. I go back to a lot of games, but on my schedule, so I feel like that shouldn’t count. But Guild Wars 2 is one where if my kids decide to play one day and give me the opportunity and reason to play too, I do it every time without fuss. It’s just so visually appealing.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): This weekend is all about slaying bus-sized critters; Monster Hunter Rise will be a primary feature, and I desperately need those Pufflehop repeater skins in Dauntless. In between, I’ll mentally reset with some Mech Mechanic Simulator. That all should tide me over until the Elite: Dangerous Odyssey alpha, I think!

This week’s bonus question actually arrives at a serendipitous time as I’ve been hungering to replay some beloved old games like Zexyz, Solstice, and one of the old-school Wizardry games. Any of those would fit the bill, really, but if we’re talking MMOs, I would really love to be able to revisit WildStar again.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Got a game to review between the usual Final Fantasy XIV nonsense, mostly. It’s going to be a low-key weekend, and I could use that.

I’ve lost track of how many different times I’ve played through Mega Man X; the game seems to be ingrained in my memory at this point. It’s hardly my favorite game, but I do seem to consistently replay it.

Tyler Edwards (blog): Curse of Strahd and Magic: Legends. ML is such a weirdly mixed bag of an experience, and I still can’t really decide if I like it or not, but I keep going back for more, so…

Bonus question: I don’t replay games nearly as much as I used to — in fact these days I almost never seem to replay things, though I often mean to. Historically, the game I’ve replayed the most is Warcraft III. I forget the exact count, but I believe I’ve finished the main campaign about twelve or thirteen times, and Frozen Throne’s six or seven times. I’ve also sunk a great deal of time into replays of The Secret World’s main story and the original Mass Effect trilogy. In fact I try to play pretty much all of BioWare’s single-player games at least twice to check out different options. Dragon Age: Origins is the exception, mainly because I found the combat abominable.

Pierre, patron: After a few busy weeks with little time to play, I decided to go for smaller games that I can play through shorter sessions. I decided to try and play Paradise Lost, an indie puzzle and adventure game that just launched this week as the visuals seemed very pretty for an indie game (and thanks to the Unreal Engine 4 too). I will also play Quantum Break. It’s an old one that I never finished and that’s been at the top of my “to play” list for a long time now. I’m not really tempted by any MMO for now. My return to Final Fantasy XIV was not conclusive. As during previous comebacks, I felt bored quite fast in this MMO, I can’t really understand why…

Bonus question: Difficult question this one, as there are many games that I like to replay. XCOM 2 and The Last of Us are the main ones I think. On the MMO front, I like to go back to my very first MMO, Final Fantasy XI, from time to time. And in the “guilty pleasure” category, World of Tanks is a itch I frequently feel a urge to scratch, even if I know I will rage-quit after only one or two days playing. And you MOP readers, I’m curious (none of your business you may say), what are you playing this weekend?
