In any sort of group content in an MMO, especially going in for the first time, someone needs to be a leader. Someone needs to be willing and ready to take charge, offer insights, blaze a trail, and figure out how to accomplish the group’s goals in the most efficient fashion possible. And that person really should not be me, but because I’m not afraid to pipe up and share observations and try to provide some measure of guidance, that person usually winds up being me after all just by process of elimination.

This is not everyone, I’ve found. There are people out there who are disinclined to pipe up and share insights, and they do not lead well. There are people who are very ready to pipe up and share shouting diatribes and insults who think they are very good as leaders and really, really are not. And there are people who actually should lead and do so, directing groups with practiced ease to clear content effectively. So how effective do you think you are as a leader in MMOs? Or do you not even try?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
