The Daily Grind: How do you maintain interest during content lulls in an MMO?

Oh no snail.

No matter how good your MMO of choice may be about managing its content schedule, there are going to be lulls. It’s inevitable. There will be times when you have done everything you need to do, and then everything you could want to do, and now you’re down to about Priority Seven or something and you’re just sort of idly going through the motions as you wait for the next content patch to arrive, which is especially bad if you’re talking about games where those future content patches may never arrive at all

Playing something else is always an option, of course. But if you still want to log in and play a specific MMO, how do you maintain interest during content lulls? How do you keep yourself engaged in the game and pursuing things that you find worthwhile? What keeps you interested and what sort of goals do you turn to, and do your approaches generally work or do they tend to just be a temporary solution to the larger problem?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
