The Daily Grind: Do you join serious or goofy guilds in MMOs?

A while back in Lord of the Rings Online, I saw an ad for a guild float by that made me giggle when usually I’m just annoyed at the blast of spam.

“Are you lazy? Do you procrastinate? Is there something you should have done 15 years ago but still haven’t?” the ad read. “Archet Volunteer Fire Department is looking for YOU! A kinship that knows there are important things to do, but we’ll get to them. We will raise Archet from the ashes… sometime. PST for info for invite; we’ll respond… eventually.”

This may not even be anything more than a joke guild, but dang, I kinda miss these. I really miss seeing silly guilds that just wanted theme characters – all shorties! all elves! all people who don’t wear pants for some reason! – instead of wanting you to join a fraternity, cult, or job where you have to sign an NDA and agree to a demerit system and possibly put your firstborn on consignment to prove your devotion. It certainly beats pick-up groups that demand you install Discord for them so they can yell at you!

Do you join goofy guilds in MMOs, or do you prefer more serious ventures?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
