The Daily Grind: Which MMOs are hard to love because of their combat design?

The other day I was spying on Chris playing some Warframe on Twitch, and the thought that kept bubbling into my head as he was slipping, sliding, and shooting his way to victory was that I really can’t do that kind of combat any more. I don’t have anything against that game, but twitchy gunfighting and super-fast movement is the polar opposite of what I like in my online RPGs.

After all, not every MMO has the same type of combat, never mind the quality and precision of such systems. Some simply “feel” better to us as individuals, while other systems can be deal-breakers when we’re trying to evaluate whether to stick with an MMO or not.

Which MMOs make it hard for you to like them based on their combat design? Did you push through it or give up on such titles because of that?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
