As part of Elder Scrolls Online’s anniversary festivities – and concurrent with next week’s big Vegas event and Necrom previews – ZeniMax Online studios has begun a multiweek free-play event for the buy-to-play optional-sub MMO.

“The Elder Scrolls Online April 2023 Free Play Event is now live and will continue until Monday April 17, 2023. During the event period, you can dive into the world of Tamriel during the Second Era at no cost on PC/Mac, Xbox consoles, and PlayStation consoles. To begin, visit our Free Play page and select your platform. This event grants you access to the ESO base game, which includes four of the game’s classes (Sorcerer, Nightblade, Templar, and Dragonknight), 24 unique zones to explore, and access to ESO’s PvP game modes such as the Battlegrounds and the Alliance War.”

This isn’t just for brand-new accounts, mind you; players who dipped in during past free-play events should be able to do so once again. Brand-new accounts, however, start with 500 cash-shop currency.

Naturally, the studio doesn’t run these events for its own amusement; it’s hoping you’ll buy in, and it’s greased those wheels with sales on last year’s High Isles chapter and various upgrade bundles.
