The Daily Grind: Do you wait for fresh start servers to come back to an MMO?

I don’t think that MMO vets and developers entrenched into a particular game realize just how daunting it is for lapsed players to actually come back to an MMO. To do so is to be deluged by months or even years of changes, not to mention the knowledge that you’re so far behind everyone else in knowledge and progress.

But there’s a way to circumvent that, which is to hop on board a fresh start server when it appears. SWTOR recently launched an Australian server, which also marked its first brand-new server in years. People who’d been out of the game for a long time suddenly had an on-ramp that wouldn’t make them feel out of the loop.

Is this something that dictates your MMO plans, especially when you’re looking to return to a game? Are fresh start servers a must-have to get you back?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
