Hello friends. It’s me, your mom, and the answer to today’s Daily Grind question should be no, and I shouldn’t even need to write this one every year. But enough of you are still funding MMOs on and off crowdfunding platforms that I know I can’t take that for granted, so we need to have the Annual Talk about how most MMOs that need Kickstarters will never actually come to fruition, and the ones that don’t need their Kickstarters are willfully abusing the platform, and you should probably just wait until there’s a finished game and then take out your credit card, that way you never have regrets, you never wind up paying studios for the privilege of QA testing their games, and you have money.
I mean, do you want Star Citizens? Because taking out your credit card before the game is done is how we get Star Citizens.
Personally, I know it’s been a few years since I Kickstarted an MMO, and I’ll probably keep it that way. I’ve been disappointed in pretty much everything I Kickstarted as well as everything I came close to Kickstarting, so lesson learned. Except MOP, of course. (And thank you for that!)
Will you be Kickstarting any MMOs in 2024? What are your parameters for pitching in?
