Helldivers 2 adds weapon balance and planetary hazards in latest patch as a deployable mech nears its launch

If you’re among the players of Helldivers 2 who have frothing, deep-seated, ravenous opinions about some of the co-op shooter’s weapons, then today’s minor patch has got something for you to talk about, as the update has mostly made an assortment of balance adjustments to various weapons and strategems.

Among the list of weapon changes are less damage to durable enemy parts for the railgun, buffs to the laser cannon and flamethrower, and a round of shotgun-specific adjustments that reduce the Breaker shotgun’s mag capacity and increase its recoil, while its Spray & Pray variant and the Punisher shotgun got several buffs.

Other features of note in the patch are the addition of planetary hazards like fire tornadoes and meteor showers; more enemy spawns and larger kill requirements for eradicate missions; updates to the energy backpack, 380mm orbital barrage, and 120mm orbital barrage strategems; and a host of bug fixes and general adjustments. Whether you’re a meta-slurping sweat lord or just someone who likes blowing up bugs and robots, the patch notes will likely be worth a look.

Meanwhile, Arrowhead is continuing to stir up hype for its next major content update, which looks to be adding deployable single-pilot mechs to the game. There still isn’t a release date for this much-wanted feature, but it appears to be already hiding in the game files; YouTube channel Grenades and Napalm put out a new video that gives an advanced (and unofficial) look at the two new mechs, as well as two APCs, a single use laser-guided missile launcher, and a deployable wall that has a mounted grenade launcher.

The video does point out that a lot of these features are in various states of completion and also admits that these were accessed through modifying game files, so bear in mind the work-in-progress nature of these previews below.
