If you haven’t been paying attention — despite even our own hollering it from the rooftops — this year has been absolutely terrible for the video game industry as a whole. Ever since the turn of the new year, we’ve seen multiple rounds of layoffs from various companies including CIG, Activision-Blizzard, Embracer, Monumental, Daybreak, SEGA, and Unity.
And according to a new video by the Extra Credits crew, this “bloodbath” is only beginning and has people worried that the entire industry is “on the brink of disaster” or even a 1983-style collapse.
Even if you don’t agree with the analysis or conclusion in the following video, it’s a good wake-up call to what’s happening right now and what steps the video games industry should take to move in a more positive and healthy direction.
