The Daily Grind: Do you avoid base-building in survival MMOs?

Listening to some of the recent development chatter surrounding Funcom’s Dune Awakening, I was reminded that this survival MMO had bases — ones which will be under constant assault, no less. That made me think of whether or not I even wanted to make a base in this game.

I generally like having such robust housing options, but sometimes I don’t have it in me to build yet another base in a game that desperately wants me to do so. Maybe I want to play Fallout 76 without a CAMP, or Valheim without a lodge, or… you get the idea.

Do you avoid base-building in survival MMOs and online RPGs? Or maybe do you construct the bare minimum for certain benefits but don’t spend an extra second working on interior decorating or pleasing aesthetics?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
