Do you like yourself some cloud gaming? If so, there’s a good chance you’ve investigated or used GeForce NOW’s cloud platform, where a single membership gets you access to dozens of games without any time spent downloading or updating the clients.
While GeForce NOW previously counted MMOs like Elder Scrolls Online in its roster, this month it gets another big hitter: World of Warcraft, which arrives with both retail and Classic offerings. This means that you could technically stream WoW right to your phone or smart TV from the cloud.
“World of Warcraft comes to the cloud this week, part of the 17 games joining the GeForce NOW library, with seven available to stream this week,” Nvidia announced.
However, you may want to approach this with caution. Fan site Icy Veins notes that some WoW players using GeForce NOW in the past were slapped with bans and suspensions because game companies saw this as breaking the EULA. And in fact Blizzard’s EULA — at least as it stands now — states that accessing third-party cloud gaming services is not allowed and could result in action against your account. (Update: The updated EU version of Microsoft’s new Activision-Blizzard EULA does apparently permit it.)
Of course, datamining from earlier this year suggested that Microsoft was behind this move as part of its partnership with NVIDIA, so presumably, Blizzard has approved it this time around, but the company hasn’t yet made any announcement either way as of Monday morning when we’re typing this, and it does seem like something it should probably acknowledge, so keep an eye out before you leap in.
