Well here we are again, Corepunk, it’s good to see you as your fourth alpha test has commenced. Now, if you’ve been reading this column for a while you have probably noticed the fact that this is a game with a somewhat troubled history when it comes to tests, but at this point having to wipe the alpha test and reset things still counts as a somewhat positive outcome. Spending a bunch of time on some titles changes your standards.
Meanwhile, Monsters & Memories has decided to host another weekend testing event for players to explore, and Seekers of Skyveil has a closed alpha event this week with plans for a closed beta in September. That’s good news for people who see “extraction shooter” and don’t immediately run for the hills, and those who do… well, they’re already in the hills, aren’t they? So they’re not offering their feedback.
Is there more beta news this week? Of course there is; you know we have a roundup right down there every week, just as you know there’s a full rundown of every game we know of in testing below that. And just as we do every week, we encourage you to let us know if something slipped to another test status down in the comments or just to share your thoughts about beta news. Is there anything you don’t know? Well, you probably don’t know what I had for lunch. That’s something.
We consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s often under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed, nor will games that are NFT/blockchain scams; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions. Finally, we’ll mark games “malingering” if they’ve been in a certain tier of development for a long time with no clear path to launch.

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.
