When you have your game on at all times, you want players to be able to queue up and find a match pronto. Games like SMITE 2 that thrive on action also thrive on matching players quickly… but they also thrive on action where the players actually get to take part in gameplay, rather than being killed in two seconds by someone they can’t possibly deal with or facing an opponent who may as well be away from the keyboard. That’s the core thought behind the game’s new matchmaking system, which will go into effect when the 24/7 closed alpha starts on August 27th.

For example, role selection will be changed so that players will rank their preferred roles from one to five, meaning that you can pick what’s right for you while also having more flexibility in what you ultimately wind up doing. The game will also use multiple skill values for players, with one overall rating and separate ratings for individual roles, thus letting every player be acknowledged in their unique preferences and gameplay skills. Check out a full video on the system just below to see how matchmaking will change when the second game starts running around the clock.
