Genshin Impact 5.0 brings a new nation, new characters, and new traversal forms August 28

There’s a big beefy update headed to Genshin Impact on Wednesday, August 28th. One that’s opening up the sixth nation on the game’s world map, adding three new characters to the digital gachapon machine, introducing some new narrative, and bringing the ability to transform into travel forms to navigate the realm. It’s Version 5.0: Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn.

This major update opens the nation of Natlan, the Nation of War and a land divided into six tribes that coexist with draconic creatures known as Saurians. Players will be exposed to three of these tribes as a contest to determine each one’s champion begins, which also happens to be where the update’s main story will begin.

One of the primary gameplay features of this update will be the ability for players to temporarily control three different Saurians: the ground-tunneling Tepetlisaurus, the grapple-using Yumkasaurus, and a Koholasaurus that can easily skate across water.

As for the new characters, those are the four-star Geo character Kachina, the five-star Dendro warrior Kinich, and the five-star Hydro-wielding Maulani. Kachina will be earnable for free by completing part of the Natlan main quest, while Kinich and Maulani will be up for gacha rolls in the first banner of this update.

In addition to the new playable content, the update will mark four years of Genshin Impact with login rewards, free goodies arriving via in-game mail, and the ability to invite a standard five-star character to the roster for free. We’re less than a couple of weeks away from it all going live, but fans can whet their appetite with the trailer below.
