Bohemia Interactive’s free-to-play multiplayer looter-shooter Vigor officially launched on PC this week after a console launch and then a run in early access for those of us on desktop devices. “[P]layers can now immerse themselves fully in the harsh, post-war world of Vigor, where survival is key, and every decision could mean life or death,” the studio announced. “With the full release, all Early Access players will experience a wipe to start fresh. However, players who purchased the Vigor Reinforcements Pack will retain all the content from the pack.”
The release was accompanied by the launch of Vigor Chronicles: Genesis, which is basically a seasonal update that includes a new battle pass inspired by retro ’80s war movies.
However, the launch hasn’t been exactly spotless. If you take a peek at Steam, you’ll see that recent reviews are in the “mostly negative” bin. Complaints run the grumpiness spectrum, focused on everything from the launch wipe to poor performance compared to console to insistent monetization.
Indeed, writing on his side blog Vidjama Gmaes (hehe), MMO Fallout’s Connor pointed out that Vigor’s battlepass system was once a model for the genre as it allowed players to access retired and unfinished passes. However, now legacy seasons are no longer in the rotation, and there’s an eye-popping pile of DLC awaiting new players – over $600 worth. Ooof.
