Back in July, we learned the sad news that Behaviour Interactive’s puzzle MMO Islands of Insight, which had only just fully launched in February, would be getting an offline single-player mode alongside the multiplayer mode. At the time, developer Lunarch Studios said it would make it a “more flexible gaming experience.”
Well, we’re losing even more flexibility, as the online multiplayer mode is going offline for good.
“Seekers, our final Islands of Insight update will arrive on October 30, 2024, which will permanently modify the game to be offline-only,” the studios wrote on Steam last night. “This will allow Islands of Insight to live on for all Seekers to find and enjoy, while we focus our efforts onto our next projects.” The studio says “there are no plans for more content to support the offline version” and “all the online features will no longer be available.” The final version won’t include any bug fixes or balance tweaks, either, except for one fix for player position saving.
The good news here is that players are able to log in over the next month to download their personal progression for import into their offline version. However, they have until only October 30th to do so: “Any online progression that is not transferred before October 30 will be lost.”
It’s certainly a deep loss for the MMORPG genre – but at least the devs planned for it with the offline version, eh?
