Lord of the Rings Online begins testing its Legacy of Morgoth expansion

The very first public beta for Lord of the Rings Online’s fall expansion is now up on the Bullroarer server. Legacy of Morgoth is available to preview as a level 150 pack in Near Harad with four zones and 350 quests.

The initial run of this test server includes the two zones of Ambarûl and Khûd Zagin, the Ikorbân Valley dungeon, the sweeping Elf avatar update, and “significant changes” for the reputation system with VIPs.

The latter sounds like a catch-up mechanic, though not a particularly robust or competitive one in the MMO genre in 2024: “If a character on the server reaches the kindred level with a faction, all other characters on the player’s account/server earn a 10% bonus until they reach the kindred threshold with the same factions. Only the three new factions in the expansion pack have this functionality.”

SSG also provided some loose details about when the progression servers are going to take their next steps. Currently, the studio is looking at the beginning of December to take the Angmar and Mordor worlds into Moria and Treebeard into Far Anorien and the Wastes.
