Stars Reach isn’t just teasing players who want to test it but haven’t been invited yet; it’s also trolling the people in its test.
“We got a lot of great feedback on the exploration part of the game,” Playable Worlds says in its latest dev blog. “Several players managed to completely map the planet. Those players found a trophy labeled ‘a sense of pride and accomplishment’ in their inventories. They then usually lost it when they next died, oops.”
For folks too young to remember, the “a sense of pride and accomplishment” line cropped up back in 2017 when an Electronic Arts exec went on Reddit and rather unwisely told Star Wars Battlefront II players who’d paid $80 for the game that the studio’s decision to lock heroes behind an additional paywall was made with the intent to “provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.” The quote was widely and justly ridiculed and even scored a Guinness World Record for downvotes on the platform.
Obviously, Playable Worlds is joking around here – and knows its audience. (I’m partial to “press sneak fucks,” personally.)
In any case, the bulk of the post recaps the last weekend of testing, in which players equipped with new ranger skills ran around the test sandbox, burning down trees, helping to catch a disconnection bug, and mowing down mobs.
Folks who’ve signed up to test – including some of us here at MOP – have been receiving emails urging us to invite friends and fill out a 12-question survey, suggesting the tests will continue ramping up in the near future. Interesting game choices in there, eh?
