It’s time to start another year of yo ho ho’ing, rum bottles, and at least 15 men on a dead man’s chest: Year 2 Season 1 of Skull and Bones is officially underway this week, with new layers of content for the multiplayer pirating adventure title. In a rather literal sense.

The layering in this case is a new world tier mechanic that will let players ascend from the current version of the map to a new Cutthroat Seas version of the game, provided players meet certain requisites and complete an associated quest. This new tier promises more difficulty all around but also more resources and loot as well, while the original map will naturally be Tier 1.

That’s not to suggest that the old map has less happening: The other major attraction is a new weapon ascension system that lets players customize their favorite weapons with new modifiers like incendiary damage or faster reload speeds. In addition, Tier 2 players will get the ability to ramp up their ships and weapons to the highest levels of power possible.

The update has also introduced a new medium-size DPS ship known as the Schooner, more warehouse storage space, a new shell-shocked status effect, and a new limited event starting May 6th that involves hunting down an enemy faction known as the Honorless.

While the current season is underway, Ubisoft Singapore also showcased what’s planned for all of Season 2, including a team-based PvP mode with pre-built ships, a massive new Frigate ship, an officer system that provides better ship benefits, a Kraken, and new land combat. The video showcase is awaiting below along with a general roadmap of updates.
