Gold selling isn’t nearly as much of a thing on modern World of Warcraft like it used to be; the existence of the WoW Token means that it’s much easier to buy gold in a fashion that’s permitted, after all. But the modern state of Battle.net and the lack of any such token sale in WoW Classic have prompted the active goldselling market to find a completely new way to spam advertisements by inviting random players into custom chat channels with the seller’s website as the channel name. This both ensures people see the advertisement and prevents you from directly reporting the person who sent the invite via right-clicking.
Obviously, we don’t need to tell you that buying gold in WoW Classic is a bad idea for several reasons, not the least of which being that Blizzard is much better at tracking these things and it’s a good way to get your account suspended. It’s also interesting to note that this both illustrates the rationale behind the addition of the WoW Token and shows the market that’s present on the game’s Classic servers for goldselling. There are a lot of layers at play here, in short.
