Acknowledging that there has been “a great deal of confusion” around the current state of Pantheon, Visionary Realms posted a new producer’s letter to explain the history of the MMORPG’s development and what’s on the horizon.
In a nutshell, the team acknowledged that it had “backed itself into a corner” with its hardcoding and was facing a future where the project would slow down considerably. So instead, a lot of work was done to restructure the game so that “more rapid development” could take place going forward.
The good news is that the team is on the cusp of a fully playable pre-alpha: “By the end of [Pre-Alpha 5], the game will encompass the actual feel of Pantheon. It includes most systems (there is still a chance that we may need to hold off on some systems for this stage, depending on timing and resources) and it will include a full progression path from 1-50.”
Testing of PA5 is going to take place over multiple sessions, with the first one scheduled for next week. Visionary Realms says that it is shopping the game around to “interested” parties but wants a well-rounded product to show off to potential investors and publishers.
