As hype for Elder Scrolls Online’s Blackwood chapter continues to mount, ZeniMax is pushing out more dev blogs exploring the lore behind the content. Today’s piece focuses on the Ruinachs – literally the big bads that serve the daedric prince Mehrunes Dagon, and they’re daedra-ish, but more like hulking scamps rather than the more reptilian daedroth and clannfear.
“No one knows Ruinachs’ true origins, but we do know they’re a relatively recent addition to Mehrunes Dagon’s army of immortal monsters,” ESO’s loremaster explains. “Some mages and historians believe they grew from Dagon’s actual flesh—an unforeseen result of Almalexia’s vicious attack during the Battle of Mournhold. The Kyn think that’s total bunk, but the Ruinachs seem to accept it as gospel truth, and every Ruinach claims direct Dagonic ancestry. Their fanaticism runs so deep that they sometimes refer to themselves as the ‘fifth hand’ and believe they are a direct manifestation of Dagon’s will.”
Notably, these dudes have four arms to kill you with – they’re “brutishly strong” with both magic and melee – and lots of fire. Do not stand in the fire. Instead, go read the whole piece over on the official site.
