Diablo IV has barely had time to let its Season 4 release settle and it’s already gearing up for Season 5, and if you’re the sort of player who’s looking to provide feedback on what’s next, then you’ve got a date to write down on your calendar: Tuesday, June 25th, which is when the PTR for Season 5 will become available.
Season 5 is being marked by two new activities in the form of a new quest line and the Infernal Hordes, with the former unlocking the latter. The quest is offered to both seasonal and eternal realms characters and will remain on eternal realms after Season 5 ends.
As for the Infernal Hordes activity, if that sounds like a wave survival mode, you’re basically right: Players must slash through waves of enemies enough that the Fell Court attacks. Those who survive successive monster waves will be able to unlock an infernal offer that grants boons and banes for the run, while defeating both normal enemies and the Fell Court will award burning aether that can be spent on spoils.
Opening this activity requires finding a fell compass, which will first be given out for free at the end of the new quest line, but will later have to be earned as a drop from endgame bosses, helltides, nightmare dungeons, and whispers. Eight different compasses exist, each granting different effects on the Infernal Hordes activity itself depending on requisites such as world tier or character level.
In addition to these two new features, Season 5 plans to bring multiple quality-of-life updates that affect several endgame bosses, helltides and whisper bounties, specific activity loot rewards, treasure goblins, and what classes can use what weapons. The new season will also introduce more items, legendaries, and uniques.
PTR testing runs between June 25th and July 2nd for PC players with a Battle.net account. More details as well as patch notes are all awaiting in the announcement.
