Conan Exiles is working hard on its launch build and new combat system

With an official May 8th launch date looming over Conan Exiles, Funcom has a lot of work ahead to get the survival sandbox ready for release. “We’re now at the point where we need to start working on the build that will be put on the discs you can buy at your local video game store,” the studio said. “The build needs to be ready at the end of January so the testing and certification process can begin.”

Bug and crash fixes for both the PC and Xbox One remain a priority, with the latter still scheduled to receive Update 32 at a later date.

The team is also testing out the new combat system, which it is trying out internally before releasing to the wilds. This combat system involves more combos, status effects, and more differentiation between weapon types. Other projects include the Volcano dungeon and special royal armor imported from Age of Conan for all early access players.

I picked this game up in Early Access quite a while ago. I really want it to succeed but their launch date feels unrealistic to me. It’s been a while since I’ve played, though, so I could be wrong.

If you haven’t even finalized a combat system for testing yet, how are you going to finish your launch build in two weeks? I’ve seen too many games pushed out half-cooked. Hopefully it’s ready because there is a lot of potential here. But then again, I’ve always thought AoC has had a lot of potential, too.

Weird. I’ve heard so much about this game over the past year or so that I assumed it was already out. I didn’t even realise it was still in beta all this time.

I plan on picking this game up at some point. Just .. dunno when that point is yet.

Still waiting on them to make setting up your own private sever be something that you dont have to be a nuclear physicist to do.

And the built in co-op mode applies a “tether” to you and other characters, so you can never travel more than a short distance from any of them.

Having played nearly every MMO to date that Funcom has produced, I don’t think they know what good combat is.

AoC’s combat isnt that bad

I wanted to like AoC’s combat because it sounds good on paper, but it never amounted to actually being fun.

Opinions. Compared to everything else at that time AoC’s combat was leaps and bounds better. No matter if it were caster classes with Spellweaving or Melees with combos, cancels and fluid positioning(in contrast to other games at that time you actually had to move and got a benefit from it, in PvE as well as PvP). It still beats Tera, imo, because the skillsystem is way deeper and the game wasn’t a facerolling exercise when it came to group content.

Lol they live on combat revamp update blogs. You’d think at some point one of them would ask the question in the dev room “but is it fun?”

This game really saved this studio from dying but that doesn’t mean the issues that were almost responsible for the studios demise went away. It makes me wonder if that game’s initial success was assumed to be lasting success and if the studio started spending as if they had a multi-year cash cow on their hands.

I put this game down after playing it for a few weeks mostly because I wanted to wait to play it until it was deemed, “gold” and QA announced, “Ship it!”. What I played of it was very promising. Can’t wait for release. I just hope Funcom has finally learned how to make a FUN COMbat system in a game finally.

I’m excited for the combat update! (No words on sorcery, yet, though. Disappointing.)

I really hope they make the combat more interesting i think that would have kept the game popular even in it’s early access phase.
