Crowfall will allow offline skill training

Sampling from the best of both worlds, Crowfall will allow both offline passive and online active skill training for characters.

In a dev update posted today, the team explained that players can pick up to three skills to learn while they are logged out of the game. The lore excuse here is that priests are praying for your hero to remember skills from a previous life. Offline training will be the main method of advancing your character’s abilities, although you can advance skills through active use as well. The team said that a skill slotted for primary training will rise to 100% in a month’s time, while a tertiary trained skill will take three times that.

The studio also posted a behind-the-scenes interview with Crowfall’s artists, so give that a watch after the jump.

BigMikeyOcho Madda But all we have to go off of is the premise of a grand ol’ time in PvP in style of an MMO, though with MOBA and Strategy type elements.

If a game focuses on PvP of any kind, WPvP is going to be horrible.

neserbohy Syntho I don’t mind being a git in game to be honest, it’s fun lol. A pvp sandbox is all about supremacy and territoriality. If they give me a reason to kill someone,  a reward, I will not think twice and butcher whatever is needed. It’s not the kind of game I would suggest to pvers.

Syntho  In RL, if you bother me, I will get rid of you, one way or other. In game, you just respawn and come back to bother me more, with totally no repercussions on your side. It’s not rule of the strongest, it’s rule of the most annoying.

Don’t mistake people quitting the game for people running away from you. Maybe you didn’t scare them away… maybe they’ve just decided there’s no point sharing their free time with such a git. :P

BigMikeyOcho mrnastybutler Those are more elements of MMOs, to me, as many types of MMOs have similar abilities to track character progression like that.

mrnastybutler BigMikeyOcho RPG elements like, you know, improving your character. Learning and acquiring skills. These campaign maps will give rewards, and there will be crafting. Lots of RPG elements. In fact, since the worlds are not persistent, I’m thinking it’ll contain more RPG than MMO elements.

Madda Yeah, but when viewed from the perspective of a MOBA, “ganking” is one of the tools of playing the game. I get the impression of lots of PvP maps and then a singular “home” space. Can you technically be “ganked” inside a PvP map?

BigMikeyOcho mrnastybutler Not seeing the RPG elements.  The MMO, yes since the characters persists but that’s about it.

mrnastybutler That was my impression, too, a lot more MOBA than MMO. However, a MOBA still mixed with a lot of RPG and MMO characteristics.

Syntho  Madda You seem to have missed Madda’s point.

Please re-read it and try again.
